My 2005 Mercury Mariner is my favorite car that I have owned. I bought it used but I love the size and the style of the SUV. The look of it is still really good even after being 10 years old. It has great pickup on the highway. Even with a new transmission in it at 90,000 miles it now drives like new. My only dislike is that I feel the sunroof has a bad seal and has to be fixed. It fits comfortably 4 people and still has great trunk space for luggage or shopping trips. I feel completely safe driving it and still looking stylish even for an older car. It does not truly eat gas like other vehicles though it could more a little more fuel efficient. Overall this SUV is truly my favorite vehicle I have ever owned. I would love to be able to get another one like it between the shape, look, f... (more)
Story
While on a girls trip we were driving in the Mariner and waiting for the ferry to cross the lake. Due to our ability to open the moon roof we got some very interesting pictures including one of a worker who didn't check his workpants for holes and chose the one with a hole in his butt.
Pros
The top positive things with the vehicle are that it has heated seats, a 6 disc cd player, cruise control, a moonroof and fog lights. The all wheel drive is another especially important feature on it especially living in an area that sees a lot of bad weather in the winter. My absolute favorite feature in the Mariner is the heated front seats. I can find the seats keeping me warm in the worst of the winter. The cd player is another bonus it allows me to play what I want to hear even when driving in areas where the radio reception is not really good. And I do not have to be distracted while... (more)
Cons
The top negative things about the Mariner is that the all wheel drive is automatic. I would like to be able to turn it on and off sometimes depending on the situation. The moonroof seal is bad and needs to be fixed. When it rains heavy the person in the passenger seat is very likely to get dripped on or something left there will be wet. The other thing is there are no vents for the back passengers to adequately get heat or air and in an SUV whether small or normal I feel that should be a standard feature no matter the age. The back leather seats are not heated so those passengers either bu... (more)

2007 Mercury Mariner - Not as reliable as I hoped.

It is a smaller SUV and came with heated leather seats, sun roof, power everything and 4W drive, so I was excited and had high expectations for this car. Unfortunately, my expectations were not met. I have had to have the car in the shop many times and spent more money than I thought I would in maintenance. I had to completely replace the transmission and within 2 weeks had to take the car back into the shop because the transmission was not working right again. In addition, the interior has not help up well. The fabric is peeling from the ceiling and the dash is faded and checking. The vehicle handles well, but the brakes seem very soft. I really have to push hard on them for a stop. It is comfortable to drive. The auto start and the heated leather seats are amazing features on those... (more)
Story
The storage of this vehicle makes it nice for packing the kids up to head to the beach with all of their toys, blankets, chairs, and the cart for me to push it all in. It is nice to push the auto start button and get the AC running while I am changing and the kids and packing up the gear. Then I can sit down in a nice cool car and leave the heat outside.
Pros
The heated leather seats, 4WD, and the storage capacity ere the best aspects of this vehicle.
Cons
The reliability was by far the biggest draw back to this vehicle. My other vehicle is a 2000 and this car was in the shop more often. Also the interior liner falling off and the fading and checking of the dashboard are disappointing.

My Mercury Mariner is a great family vehicle. The quietness of the vehicle when I drive coupled with the power of the air conditioning makes it an awesome ride when taking long road trips. Some other aspects that I like about the car are the ability to completely lay down the seats in order to load big items into the car. There are plenty of cup holders including the console that can be removed and put externally in order to hold additional drinks. I find that the car provides great mileage as well.
Story
We were able to pack up three children, 12, 6, and 4 months old and two adults comfortably and take a 5 hour road trip. We could easily access or belongings because the back window pops up and the kids could keep their snacks in the external console gadget.
Pros
The car has a very nice looking exterior and interior. I love the satellite radio and the ability to plug my phone up to the car to listen to Pandora. I also like the amount of space in the back as I am constantly transporting things back and forth. Also, I am tall and I find it very easy to maneuver in and out of the vehicle.
Cons
The only cons I have about this vehicle is the amount of leg room in the back for passengers. If the seats could scoot back about 3 or 4 more inches that would be great. Also, it is very hard to tell if the sunroof is completely closed. I have gone through the car wash a couple of times and ended up being washed myself!
