2004 Mercury Monterey - A pretty good vehicle!

I like the interior style of the vehicle. The buttons are big and easy to press. I do not like that you cannot show the time on the LED, but rather have to read it off an analog clock on the dashboard. The middle console is large and convenient. The cup holders can be pulled out or pushed back in for a "clean" look. There are also a couple more compartments for storage. The heating and air have both gone out but have been fairly easy fixes. The gas mileage is definitely not good. The tires are very expensive to replace. The vehicle provides a smooth ride and has lots of space between seats so that everyone can be comfortable. The locks on the back doors will not unlock when using the key fob about 85% of the time. The acceleration and brakes work great and smooth. I feel safe in this v... (more)
Story
This was my very first vehicle purchase! That in itself was really fun and memorable.
Pros
My favorite things about this vehicle are how it looks, the brakes, the roominess, and how easy it is to take out the back row seating. It has a sleek interior that makes it look stylish yet simple. There are multiple compartments in the front that make for easy storage. The seats are spaced far apart so that everyone is comfortable during long car rides. There are ample cup holders so that everyone has a spot to put their drinks. The brakes are smooth and make for a smooth stop, even if abrupt. It takes about 1 minute to get the back row seating out, and is easy to just fold down if stora... (more)
Cons
This vehicle is in need of repairs almost constantly. The brakes often need replaced. The only way to see what time it is to view the analog clock in the dashboard, no option to display it on the LED screen. The brake lights need checked quite often. The heating and air are constantly going out and needing fixed. The tires are incredibly expensive to replace. I think the worst thing about this vehicle is that once one problem is fixed, another occurs. The locks on the back doors hardly ever work, which makes the automatic doors not work most of the time. The gas mileage is awful.

I chose the vehicle because it had adjustable brake pedals. The interior leather trim and heated seats added to the comfort. It road a lot more like a car vs. a truck, and had a smooth ride. I also liked the fold-down "tailgate" seat in the back. It had a lot of cargo space and the seats in the back were removable.
Story
I used the minivan for several road trips, and also added decals to use it for on-event support for a charity walk I did.
Pros
Smooth ride, comfortable leather seats, heated seats, decent mileage vs. SUVs on the market, the adjustable foot pedals allowed me to not have to sit too close to the steering wheel when driving. The car also has keyless entry and an alarm system, which made it feel more secure.
Cons
The heated seats kept having issues of not working. Engine ended up having an issue (Rod knock?) when the car got a lot older (over 110,000 miles). Also, had some issues with the window cranks and locks failing as the car aged. There was a recall on some hooks that rusted out.

The cars style is very basic for a van. Total of four doors, 1 driver/passenger and then two automatic sliding doors for the back. It originally had front and rear sensors that would beep whenever something was nearby. After 5 years they stopped working. The read windows could be opened from the front with the push of a button. However, the batteries have been known to dye for those windows so we keep them closed now. They work great for getting hot air out of the van. The car is very comfortable. The front seats (driver/passenger) have seat warmers which is great during the winter months. All the seats are light tan leather. There is plenty of room for all passengers. The rear seat can get folded down into the floor and give a ton of space for materials. The middle two seats can fo... (more)
Pros
Fit's the whole family, good mileage, lots of space for transporting stuff
Cons
Front/rear sensors stopped working
