My 2004 Pontiac Vibe is very enjoyable car to drive. It handles well, gets good mileage, has a large cargo area and provides a comfortable ride.
Story
The greatest memories I have of this car are when I first purchased it. For three years, I had to function without a car while living in an area that didn't have public transportation. The day I found out I was approved for the loan and finally drove it off the lot, I could barely function because I was so excited. I also took the trip of my lifetime when I drove cross country to New Mexico f... (more)
Pros
The pros are the gas mileage (I drove cross country from New York State to New Mexico filling up the tank every 200 miles), the quiet interior, the ability to easily read and reach all dials, reliable breaking and acceleration.
Cons
The cons are numerous. The Vibe was recalled several times for mechanical defects. The first was to correct a problem with the driver-side window falling down into the door or falling out completely. After taking it in for repairs, the window failed anyway. It is now held up with duck tape. Next, after only possessing the car two years, the brakes had to be replaced at a cost of over $1000 due to faulty manufacturing. The auto is nice but there is one very major drawback and that is the blind spots. It is extremely had to see what is behind you when backing-up or switching lanes. There was indeed quite a flaw in this particular model. When traveling on the freeway and merging or switching lanes, you find yourself in a very dangerous and scary situation. Backing out of a parking space is another challenge but at least you are moving at a very slow speed. Other than this situation, the car handles very vice and has a smooth ride. One other item that is badly needed however is an indicator of when your lights are on. You are notified when your tires are low but something as important as headlight notification is missing.
Pros
The ride is nice and comfortable.
Cons
Blind spots and no indication whether your lights are on or off.
