I purchased my Suzuki the same year I married my husband (back in 2010). I had just totaled my last vehicle and needed a vehicle to help me accommodate and shuttle my new husband and his daughter. I had $12K in my pocket and needed a vehicle for just my tiny family of three persons (and maybe one more soon), and one that had good gas mileage. At the time I believed that my Suzuki would meet those qualifications. It was compact, had advertised good gas mileage, and I was able to purchase it without a car payment. Win-win! Almost the day after we drove the vehicle off the lot I began to experience issues, though. The car constantly needs oil, the A/C has needed topping off twice, the headlight is always out, and the gas mileage does not live up to all that was promised. Now that ... (more)
Story
It was nice to create fun new memories with my daughter in this car. I also brought home two new sons in the car as well. I will be sad to (finally) sell the lemon.
Pros
In the beginning I was very pleased with my Suzuki. One of the best things about my new-to-me car was that it was a relatively cheap investment for me. So cheap in fact I was able to pay for the car in cash from my savings and insurance pay out. Also, for my small family at the time the five seater vehicle left enough room for all us, plus a few more! With my new extra seating I was also able to start shuttling my new daughter and her friends around town. This was a big deal for me as it was something I never thought I would have said even a month ago! Another one of the big perks of... (more)
Cons
I became very frustrated with my Suzuki almost the day after I drove it off the lot. On day two of ownership of my new family friendly wagon the radio fritzed out and needed complete replacing. The second week the cruise control stopped working. Two days later the headlight burned out for the second time... in one week. I became so frustrated by all the issues that I called the dealership within three weeks of purchase and threatened to return the vehicle. I believe my exact words were “nothing on this car works” to the manager. I brought the car into the dealership with the hopes th... (more)

This vehicle has just been a nightmare to own. It seemed so appealing at first. The third row seating, four wheel drive, as well as the price. But you really get what you pay for. After buying it the car it immediately just died. I have spent around 9,000 in repairs. In the 18 months I have owned it, it has spent more time in the shop than on the road.
Story
One fun memory I had was being able to fit all the kids in it, and going up to the mountains in Colorado. It was a fun trip, and the four wheel drive had a lot more traction than I thought it would have.
Pros
The pros about this vehicle to me was the combination of the third row seating, the four wheel drive, and the price. It seemed like a good family car to haul everyone around in and fit with some degree of comfort. It just does not have luxurious space in the second two rows for leg room, but for children it works well enough for the price tag. On the fly four wheel drive was a great feature as well. It may seem like a foolish pro as well, but the cup holders have also been a great deal of help. There are a lot of them to use.
Cons
My only real con is the reliability. I do not use this vehicle to go back and forth to work. But I would rather have a vehicle go out on me on my way to work than with my children in it. The check engine light was a nightmare to get from coming on. Rebuilt engine and almost all reviews on the vehicle I have read seemed to have similar critical engine problems. Not just the leaky oil or little minor issues. Total failure. It has been the worst vehicle purchase I have made so far. I heard it in part has to do with the way the engines were transported during manufacture and a great deal were ... (more)

I bought my Suzuki Grand Vitara used from it's original owner 5 years ago. It has been an awesome little SUV for me. It handles all the obstacles of mountain living just like the bigger SUV's do but without the high cost of gas. It's just small enough to park in the small spaces here in this little village and yet it holds a ton of stuff. I love that it has plenty of head room and you can push the drivers seat way back. It also has a nice ride even on the bumpy mountain roads. If I had to say one thing I don't like about it I guess it would be that the back seat doesn't have much leg room, but for a single gal that doesn't bother me much. It is quiet on the road and does great in the snow. I especially love the fact that the back gate opens to the side rather than up. I've been hit on ... (more)
Story
I like to explore and I took this little SUV down a paved road that turned into a dirt road. The car was doing so well and my friend and I were having so much fun that it took us quite a while to notice that the dirt road had turned into a riverbed! Now that's SUV off-roading at its finest!
Pros
Gas friendly (no guzzling here) Roomy (especially the space between the drivers seat and steering wheel) Plenty of storage space in back Does great in the snow
Cons
The leg room in back is tight Honestly the biggest con is that they stopped making them!
