We bought our RAV4 from a friend after we had a car accident. Immediately, we noticed that the cockpit was very roomy and that the transmission shifts very smoothly. With a six-cylinder EFI engine, it accelerates quickly. It also comes with a six-CD changer and a decent factory stereo system. Fast forward a few years, and now, we get to see the true value of the car, after it has some heavy miles and usage. The pros of the RAV4 Sport, even years later, is that it still gets relatively good fuel mileage for a six cylinder and still has ample pick up. The body has held up well, even after a couple of mishaps. The cons of the older RAV4 Sport is that when it shows its age, bad things happen. We later found out that there were many recalls on this vehicle and have to have it taken in to th... (more)
Story
We took the Rav4 up the coastline to a small Danish settlement in central California where we spent the holiday. It was a long and wonderful drive there and back.
Pros
The RAV4 is roomy. The RAV4 has great acceleration. The RAV4 gets very good fuel mileage, even after twelve years.
Cons
The RAV4 parts are abundant but sometimes pricey. The RAV4 rattles the rear spoiler loose, which sometimes requires retightening. This causes a body squeak in the cockpit if unattended. The RAV4 sensors are touchy, and sometimes give "false positives." Any labor done on the RAV4 is a little higher.

2006 Toyota RAV4 - Reliable, small SUV. Good buy overall.

The 2006 RAV4 Sport has some good and some bad qualities overall. The bad qualities are not a deal breaker for me, as I am utilitarian when it comes to my vehicle choices. The 2006 RAV4 is a bit of a noisy and rattily vehicle, but its fuel efficiency is good, especially considering the vehicle year. Overall, the vehicle has been very reliable. I have had to make minimal repairs and do minimal maintenance to keep it running well and in good shape. I have the upgraded sound package with the subwoofer, but I would not recommend that upgrade for the 2006 RAV4. The subwoofer has gotten a little static-y, so I have to keep the bass turned down, and it sometimes rattles. I have the cargo net and trunk shade. Those extras are very handy, but they do add to the rattle of the vehicle when in pla... (more)
Story
The RAV4 has very good pick up, so you can get up to speed fast. Sometimes drivers in very large vehicles become road bullies, but I can quickly pass those big guys and am small enough to get over even if they are trying to not make room for me.
Pros
Higher off the road than a compact, sedan, or even crossover. Upgraded sound system. Small so it's easy to find parking. Fuel efficient, considering the vehicle year. Mechanically reliable. Easy to drive and maneuver. Moon roof!
Cons
Body style is not very attractive. Many rattling components. Road noise, even with windows up. Vehicle lacks personality, visually speaking. Lots of recalls that had to be addressed, which is time consuming.

Cars on the lot are well organized and easy to see. Prices and additional features are easily visible and there's always a staff member available. I noticed the staff is there to HELP, not to pressure you into purchasing. When it came down to financing, they worked with me and my credit to find a loan that offered payments I could afford. The entire experience was low-pressure, informative and fun!
