The 2006 RAV4 Sport has some good and some bad qualities overall. The bad qualities are not a deal breaker for me, as I am utilitarian when it comes to my vehicle choices. The 2006 RAV4 is a bit of a noisy and rattily vehicle, but its fuel efficiency is good, especially considering the vehicle year. Overall, the vehicle has been very reliable. I have had to make minimal repairs and do minimal maintenance to keep it running well and in good shape. I have the upgraded sound package with the subwoofer, but I would not recommend that upgrade for the 2006 RAV4. The subwoofer has gotten a little static-y, so I have to keep the bass turned down, and it sometimes rattles. I have the cargo net and trunk shade. Those extras are very handy, but they do add to the rattle of the vehicle when in pla... (more)
Story
The RAV4 has very good pick up, so you can get up to speed fast. Sometimes drivers in very large vehicles become road bullies, but I can quickly pass those big guys and am small enough to get over even if they are trying to not make room for me.
Pros
Higher off the road than a compact, sedan, or even crossover. Upgraded sound system. Small so it's easy to find parking. Fuel efficient, considering the vehicle year. Mechanically reliable. Easy to drive and maneuver. Moon roof!
Cons
Body style is not very attractive. Many rattling components. Road noise, even with windows up. Vehicle lacks personality, visually speaking. Lots of recalls that had to be addressed, which is time consuming.

1999 Toyota RAV4 - I Love My '99 RAV-4

The '99 RAV-4 is extremely comfortable to drive. I feel secure, everything I need is close at hand, and my back doesn't hurt after long drives. My car now has nearly 200,000 miles on it, and I have had no major mechanical problems. Aside from routine maintenance, I have never needed to get additional work done on my car. I especially love that I can fold the back seats down to increase cargo space. I can move a lot of items at one time, and have successfully camped out of my car for a full week with everything I need, including my bikes on my rooftop racks.
Story
I was so happy to own my RAV-4 when I went to Death Valley national park. The higher clearance and 4-wheel drive allowed us to access places down long gravel roads and get away from the main roads and tourists.
Pros
The car is extremely comfortable for me to drive. It has plenty of cargo space, especially with the rear seats folded down. I like the high clearance, which has allowed me to travel off-road. It's very reliable; I've never had a mechanical problem. I also really appreciate that the lower panels on the body are made of plastic, as they do not scratch or dent.
Cons
My only pet peeve about the '99 RAV-4 is the rear door. It is heavy and cumbersome. On more than one occasion, the door has swung closed while I'm retrieving gear from the cargo area, and curved upper portion of the door has hit me in the head. Other minor design changes I would make are bigger/more cup holders, and some way to keep rain from dripping on the seat when the front doors are open.
