I have really liked my Passat because of the heaviness and sturdiness of the drive. It is very comfortable and provides me with room as I have a bigger frame. It's good on gas mileage and has held up well over the years. It still looks nice and very stylish even though it is an older make vehicle year. Has very large trunk space which I like as it enables to carry around large amounts of my photography equipment.
Story
I am a huge Bruce Springsteen fan, and on one of Bruce's tours to Texas several years ago I took the Passat out and did the Texas tour. Went to see Springsteen in Dallas, then drove to Houston the next day for that show, then back to Austin for that show a few days later. Had always wanted to do that.
Pros
I have gotten good service through VW service departments. I had some engine problems in the third year, but VW repaired and covered everything under the warranty. It drives very well when I have to take it out on the road, and has plenty of space for 5 people inside. Again, the trunk space provides room for lots of luggage and transportation of equipment. I like the fact that the back seat folds down so that I can transport larger items from the trunk into the back seating area.
Cons
The only things that have been negative have been a couple of engine issues, but I have had the car a long time. I mentioned the first issue in the third year of the warranty, and then another issue at 7 years with the fuel flow. Now at 12 years the main issue I have is a leak in the power steering flow which I need to fix.

This vehicle is very spacious and roomy with a nice, comfortable ride. The Volkswagen name was one that I trusted and I had always wanted a Passat. I bought the vehicle used with about 42,000 miles on it. After 68,000 miles, I had a failure of the ABS module and the brake pump which cost over $3,000 to fix! Luckily I purchased the extended warranty which covered the repairs. Now I am uncertain how I feel about the vehicle, but the ride is still just as smooth!
Story
No fun stories to share, but I do like how well it drives!
Pros
The vehicle has a smooth ride with comfortable seats. The power windows and locks, sleek interior and exterior, and the Bluetooth audio systems were necessary for my needs. Additionally, the vehicle is spacious, and the back seats are great for passengers.
Cons
There is not a lot of "get up" to the car -- it is slow to accelerate, and even slower to brake. In fact, this car has one of the worst braking ratings in the industry, so as a caution for those out there that like to tailgate, this is NOT the car for you! Additionally, there is now some skepticism about how reliable this car is, since mine needed major repairs before the 75K mile mark.
