Little engine the could.
We bought a used Dodge Caravan as is from a dealer because that was what we could afford at the time and who would approve us. We are a family of 7, so a van is a must. I must hold 3 car seats and be able to get in and out as well as all the stuff that goes along with having young kids. In the beginning the van ran pretty well. We didn't have any major issues with it, other than the fact that there was no radiator cap. The van has lots of room. It is able to hold a full double stroller in the back along with bags for the twins and the baby as well as stuff for the older kids to do. There is also storage space under the seats in the front. The car ran very well until last year when the air conditioning went out in the summer and the heat in the winter. Then the radiator stopped working and two tires went flat.

Entry-level family van
The Dodge Caravan was a no-frills sort of vehicle that got my large family from point a to b in the bumpiest, cheapest way possible. It did not have the features that a lot of more expensive makes and models had, and the interior left a lot to be desired. The drive was boring, which is pretty standard for this segment, but worse was its get up and go (it had none). This made highway commutes and driving up large inclines a challenge. The minivan required several tune-ups, and the engine went out completely after 50,000 miles. The repairs were not as expensive as many other models, and the parts were easy enough to field... but the fact that I basically had to replace everything in the car so soon was a huge turn off. That said, the gas mileage was competitive, and the storage was certainly very good. If you're looking for an affordable family car and can do without many of the luxuries present in better minivans, than Dodge Caravan is likely a car to think about. But if you love your family and want more than just the memories that accompany a travel van (i.e., things like the comfort of the ride), then look elsewhere.
