I love my Subaru Crosstrek. I think it handles great and is super comfortable (especially for someone who is relatively short). The leather seats clean up easy with all the messes dogs and kids make, and I love the extra rubber floor mats which are great in the winter time and when using the vehicle for outdoorsy activities. Also, I love Subaru's AWD - it keeps my family safe in the winter time and still allows us to go where we need to.
Story
Shortly after my kids were born, my spouse and I, the twins, and our two dogs somehow managed to cram into the car, along with all of our clothes, gear, etc for a 3 day trip. How we fit 6 living creatures along with luggage in the car is beyond me, but we did it and everyone was comfortable and we even had a little extra room for souvenirs on the return trip.
Pros
One of my favorite features of the vehicle is the back up camera, which is awesome for parallel parking. I also love the comfortable seats. Subaru's all wheel drive is the best; the car handles so well in snow and icy conditions. Another thing I really like about the vehicle is that the bars on the roof come standard. I use the bars all the time when I need a little extra storage space by using weather resistant duffel bags and bungee straps. I also like the hatchback style of the trunk - it makes the trunk feel very spacious. One last thing I like is the storage in the center consol... (more)
Cons
I would say that there are certainly cheaper cars in the crossover genre, so price is a con. However, if looking at total value for a car instead of just price, I think this car is still worth it. Another con would be that the car is still pretty small. If trying to decide between a crossover and an SUV and a person is concerned that the Crosstrek isn't big enough, I would probably stick with your gut and go larger. We love our Crosstrek, but a few times we have wished we bought something larger.

2014 Subaru Crosstrek - A great car for a small growing family

We bought our Subaru Crosstrek after being previous Subaru Outback owners. We were excited for something more young, fun, and vibrant. The unique tires, quick pick-up, and sleek interior swayed us towards the new Subaru model. The trunk, with the hatch back door, allows for easy loading of dogs and kids toys. The roomy leg space in the back seat allows for adults to fit comfortably when traveling to the ski slopes. The safety buckles allow for easy installation of car seats. Our most favorite feature are the seat warmers that are quick and intense on a snowy winter day.
Story
We had twin boys that were born 13 months ago. Coming down out of the hospital with our two sons and coming to the car in the hospital's loading area I didn't know that my father had packed our dog in the back of the car. We opened the hatch and our 2 year old Goldendoodle, Summit, who had been anxiously awaiting the birth of our sons, came bounding out. He ran right up to the little car se... (more)
Pros
The fact that the back boors can be opened a little further than traditional car doors allows for easy loading of kids and things into the back seat. The seat is very comfortable when we do long drives to visit family. Also, I like sitting a little higher than a traditional car, but don't feel like I'm driving a behemoth on the road.
Cons
As our family has grown with having two kids and a dog, space to pack the car for a trip is running out. We often have to be strategic on what we bring and how we pack in order to fit everything, sometimes leaving some things at home. We also wish that there was a small hole in the seat to slide skis through. Having to put a whole seat down limits the number of people that can ride in the car with us.
