1996 Toyota Avalon - 20 Years of Comfort and Reliability
I purchased my 1996 Toyota Avalon for the price of $3,000 as my first car 5 years ago, in 2011. At the time of purchase, the car was in decent condition for its age; there were no obvious defects or damages and the car had around 150,000 miles on the odometer. As of February 2016, the car currently has over 210,000 miles on the odometer and, despite the wear and tear put on it by the beginning driver that I was, including damage done from small accidents and collisions, it is still very reliable and running strong. The car's interior is extremely spacious, with even very tall passengers being comfortable riding in the back seat. The front seats are powered and very comfortable to sit in. The V6 1MZ-FE engine is still very powerful and I am able to overtake other drivers with ease when ... (more)
Story
Some of the most fun I've had in my 1996 Toyota Avalon was driving around the back roads of my rural North Carolina hometown. The raw power exuded by the vehicle when in ETC Power mode makes it a blast to drive on curvy roads and gravel paths where other drivers are few and far between.
Pros
The car has a very spacious interior, including powered front seats, as well as a strong, reliable automatic transmission, featuring overdrive and a power mode, and a V6 engine capable of producing over 100 horsepower even twenty years after the car's manufacture date. It has reasonable gas mileage, at around 25 miles per gallon by my calculations. Furthermore, the insurance costs are fairly cheap with it being an older four-door sedan.
Cons
The only cons that presently come to mind about my 1996 Toyota Avalon are related to its age. Though it has been very reliable for me during the five years I have owned it, its age often makes me question how much longer that reliability will last.
1995 Toyota Avalon - Older beat up car, but has a strong heart on it so far.
Well, I originally bought this car used at a used car dealership. I made the mistake of not inspecting it all over. Turns out it had hidden defects and the dealership had tried to dump a total lemon on me. I had some auto knowledge and was able to help my stepfather repair one of the issues, which included a bad starter and battery. I liked how well it runs with the miles it has on it, but I don't like the slightly bumpy ride it has (has worn out shocks on it currently). For the price, it's very slowly starting to pay for itself back. It's a great project car, which is another thing I like about it. It has parts that are easy to find. With it being a 1995, it's also an OBDI-car and is not required to have a passing check engine light for inspection in my state. Another thing I like abo... (more)
Story
When the starter motor died on it, it went nuts and got stuck in the engaged position. It spun and made a horrible loud noise until it killed the battery. After we fixed it, I barely drove it 5 miles or so and the battery completely went out. After that, had to replace the battery in it, battery tray and clean up the battery cables. The car fought us part of the way, but it's now over 1,000 mi... (more)
Pros
Runs pretty well, despite the age, miles and wear on the vehicle. Has legendary Toyota reliability, despite all of the wear. Dual power leather seats still work. Has ice cold air that still works as well. Good shifting transmission.
Cons
Ride is pretty shot, still needs new shocks and suspension tuning. Needs a little bit of tuning on the engine to run "perfect". Probably needs maintenance done, soon. Maintenance would include things like gaskets, oil change and maybe a tire rotation.

2014 Toyota Camry - Hendrick Toyota Scion Apex
Friendly service, no hassle to get a final price. The dealer did go through standard negotiations but there was no aggressiveness or unwillingness to consider an offer. Was willing to accept a trade-in at a fairly good price. The only reason I didn't purchase a car from this dealer was that my bank's loan didn't go through and I didn't like their financing offer. Will definitely go back once loan is secured.
