2004 Toyota Matrix - A Work Horse
This car was bought new back in 2004 by my mother. Six years ago it was given to me. Since then it has gotten scraped up and has over 177,000 miles on it, but nothing ever major has happened to it, and it still runs perfectly.
Story
Misjudging a drive through with my car and scraped the side mirror against a wall.
Pros
It was free. Toyota makes reliable cars. Perfect size for new(ish) driver. Even though they discontinued making them a few years ago, you still see old models being driven.
2009 Toyota Matrix - Satisfied despite issues.
Overall, I am really happy with my vehicle. The interior is comfortable and spacious as well as easy to clean. I also have a lot of trunk space because the seats fold back, giving me more room than most cars. This is perfect for me because I camp fairly often and travel long distances for school, so I can fit practically everything I own in this car. The build is decent, and it only requires mechanical work a few times a year. Even when it is in bad shape, I am able to feel safe when driving. The only issue with the build is that the car is so lightweight that while driving I often feel it rocking in the wind, even when there is nothing wrong with the engine. This makes it more difficult to drive at higher speeds.
Story
When I went on a recent camping trip with my boyfriend, our tent got flooded with rain. We spent the night sleeping in the backseat of my car listening to the rain, and we were more comfortable than in the tent.
Pros
My favorite thing about this car is the comfortable and spacious interior. I am comfortable driving long distances because I have plenty of room to move around, and I don't feel crowded when I'm driving with a full trunk. It is also very fuel efficient.
Cons
The biggest drawback to this vehicle is how it performs on highways. It is difficult to get it to reach high speeds in a reasonable amount of time, and at high speeds the car sometimes shakes. it could also be updated with Bluetooth, because right now the only way I can connect my phone to the stereo is with a USB cord. Since it is lightweight, it is also easily damaged in accidents.
