When I originally bought this car, I was looking for something in a specific price range ($10,000 - $12,000) that wasn't too old and didn't have tons of miles. My Cobalt fit that bill. It has been a reliable vehicle thus far (I have owned it about four years). The only major expense that I've had is replacing the breaks, something that everyone will have to do if they keep a car for long enough. I was recently contacted by Chevy and informed about a recall on my vehicle involving a potentially faulty ignition switch. I haven't personally had any problems with my ignition, but I intend to take my car in as soon as possible to make sure that I am not injured, since apparently other people have been.
Story
Sometimes the Cobalt displays little informative messages on the console. For instance, if the temperature is at freezing or below, it will display "Ice Possible." When the cruise control is activated, it will display "Cruise Engaged." I always imagine that the car is saying those things aloud in a softly feminine voice, and it makes me laugh.
Pros
My favorite things about my car are the surprisingly high quality sound system that came with the vehicle, the surprisingly easy to use cruise control feature, and the roomy trunk. I've only owned much older cars, so I'm also used to needing to change the oil every three months, and I was pleasantly surprised to find out that I only needed to change the oil when my car informed me (via the dashboard display) that my oil needed changed! I also really appreciate the car's ability to actually estimate how many miles per gallon I am getting.
Cons
Unfortunately, I was surprised to learn that despite the vehicle itself being very affordable, it is actually a lot more expensive to insure the vehicle than it would be to insure other cars. Even different models from the same company and the same year cost much less to insure than the Cobalt. I'm over 30, married, and an incredibly safe driver, and we still pay a few hundred more dollars every 6 months for my vehicle than we do my spouse's. The only explanation that our insurance company could give was that the Cobalt itself wasn't ranked very highly on safety tests. That makes me worry ... (more)

The 2006 LaCrosse CXL packs a good punch for a reasonable price tag. The features of the vehicle that stand out are leather seating, sunroof, fully automatic driver's seat adjustments, power locks, power windows, traction control, spacious interior, and GM's renowned 3.8l engine. Performance is excellent with the 3.8l engine. The car is quick, powerful, and very capable. You can pass other motorists with ease, for example. Practically speaking, the vehicles provide a good balance of features without breaking the bank. Styling is unique and fairly aesthetically pleasing, although the faux wood trim in the interior comes off as cheap. The car is quite reliable, due in part to the known reliability of the engine. Comfort is exceptional. The leather seats are quite comfy, the interior is m... (more)
Story
Playing designated driver for some very inebriated friends! I got to take them from bar to bar, DJ in the car for them, and it was quite a lively experience.
Pros
Comfortable. Reliable. Fun to drive. Stylish. Good gas mileage.
Cons
Cheaper quality interior trim. No remote start available. Horsepower could be better for a full-sized sedan.
