Not the most glamorous, but sturdy and reliable
I would say my favorite thing about my Bonneville is the fact that it handles ice and snow with ease. The traction control in this car never fails to save me from sliding into mailboxes, snow banks, or other cars when the roads are slippery. While I am not particularly enamored with the appearance of the car (the shape is kind of clunky and the color nondescript), I find nothing objectionable about it. I am a sophomore in college and I've had the car since my junior year of high school, and it was a perfect second car for me (and a massive upgrade from the decrepit, air conditioning-less stick-shift Honda coup I had been suffering with before.

Great ride, bad fuel economy
The Bonneville is a great car for a family or for anyone who likes a leisure vehicle with a bit of power. Having leather trim is definitely a must, as it nicely accentuates the comfort and pleasurable ride. The back seat is quite roomy and shorter people would find it makes quite a comfortable bed. The engine seems to be fairly reliable, I had to replace mine at about 180,000 miles, but I'd say that's not too shabby for an American made car of that period. The V6 3.8 liter engine is just gutsy enough, and can beat any new Japanese care off the line, no problem. Overall, I'd say this is a great car for the right owner. The only downsides are the gas mileage, the reliability of some parts, and possibly the size and maneuverability. If you like comfy American vehicles, this one is probably for you.

The 1996 Pontiac Bonneville was the first car I owned. The "kiss of death" came when the transmission failed after 175,000 miles of use. At the time, I enjoyed the steering on this car- it was easy to maneuver and "loose." Now that I've grown a bit more accustomed to European models, I can say that the loose steering was a bit of a drawback. Off the line, it performed well with a 3.8 liter V6 engine. I don't recall the gas mileage being exceptional, but it did not guzzle gas the way a 3.8 liter engine should. 25 mpg on the interstate was not uncommon.
