Overall, the Ford Focus SVT is a fun, small but practical hatchback from the early 2000s. While its styling for the time is nice and the interior quality is still better than that of it's competitors, it's not a style that has aged particularly well and still has flaws that have accumulated over time.
Story
Driving this car on the Multnomah Falls History Highway in northern Oregon is quite fun. This car does best at moderate speeds 35-60 mph on twisty roads. It has good grip and you still feel quite in control.
Pros
First major positive about this car is the styling. It was a new and interesting style for a hot hatch when it came out and still is nice to look at. Overall interior quality is nice and even the hard plastics have held up pretty well over time. The leather/cloth combination seats and leather steering well have also held up well and have a nice appearance. As this car only came with a manual gearbox, the transmission is one of the more easy ones to manage. For a small and relatively light car by today's standards, the 170 hp of this car at the time is more than enough power for it to feel ... (more)
Cons
Despite the manual transmission being an easy one to manage, it can still be a little bit of a pain in stop and go traffic because of the high gearing of 1st and 2nd gears. The rarity of this particular model and engine of this car make replacement parts difficult to find and more expensive than they are really worth. This also causes issues when trying to do DIY maintenance and repairs or even when going to see the dealer because of the scarcity of these cars. I would say gas mileage is disappointing in this car as it gets around 20 in town and just under 30 on strictly highway driving, s... (more)

The Ford Focus is a zippy car. It is larger inside that it appears, it has up to date features ( sync, cruise control, XM radio ) and gets good gas mileage. Also, it's an attractive car. It looks a lot like a Honda but about half the price, used. Although, the best thing about the car is its dependability. I have had this car for two years and have never had a problem. This last winter when an unexpected snowstorm hit Portland and there were cars broken down all over the place, I was fine. I drove slow and made it home in time for dinner. The only thing I would change about the focus is the hatch back cover (that covers the contents of the trunk. Mine is flimsy (attached by a string) and difficult to take off and put back on. Also, there is a smart key, If you accidentally get stuck w... (more)
Story
I live in Portland Oregon and even though we are known for dreary weather,, we are not known for snow. When it snows, people freak out, cars slide off the road and school busses don't get the kids home until midnight. The Ford Focus may not look like a snow worthy vehicle, but looks can be deceiving. I drove slowly from my job site in NE Portland to my home in SW Portland and didn't slide once... (more)
Pros
Quick. Attractive. Affordable. Great gas mileage. Dependable.
Cons
Smart keys. Flimsy hatch back cover.

I spoke with my sales associate on the phone prior to coming into the dealership. I told her about my situation, financially and otherwise and she was very accommodating. She understood the pressure I was under and made the shopping experience very easy and underwhelming. This was my first time buying a car from a dealer.
