The Ford Ranger is an excellent truck in the smaller truck category that competes with the Tacoma and Mazda B Series (although they are often the same exact build given a relationship Ford and Mazda had in the 90s that has now ended). The XLT version of the truck is a great option for extra comfort given the ability to adjust the seats and carry that extra bit of gear behind them. The truck itself has a great long-lasting engine, and the design has clean lines in the interior. It really is a basic truck designed for light work around an urban environment due to its ease of parking in the city. I'd recommend this truck to anyone who has such work or is looking for a weekend getaway vehicle as that is what I use it for primarily. I have upgraded the vehicle to have off-road tires and a t... Story
I went to the beach and slept in the truck bed while watching the sunset in Malibu.
Pros
Positive things about this vehicle are its interior design and good bed size. It is small enough to park in the city as I mentioned. My favorite feature is probably the bench seating in the front because I like the option of added passengers. Also, there are two extra seats in the small cab behind the front seats for those emergency situations. Other pros include a well-built engine and easy design. There are not many bells and whistles, and the buttons are all very simple and locking mechanisms as well, which I like. In a truck this is what I want: simplicity. It is a great beat-around ve... Cons
The negatives about this vehicle are its very small engine size, which doesn't allow for heavy lifting, but that is a non issue for me. Other negatives are that it is very slow. The acceleration is horrible, and on the highway, I find myself crawling at times because it does not get very high up there on the speed department. Other negatives are its tape player, which can be improved by getting an after-market stereo. It does not come with a trailer hitch, but I got one and would recommend that too. The truck is also kind of small, and you can feel it when you are inside, which isn't exact... (more)

1995 Ford Ranger - The truck is reasonably dependable.

This truck was responsive and had a solid feel to it when I first bought it - which was when it was at about 80000 miles. With decent tires, you can actually "off-road" in it. It seems to have the Ford reliability. The sliding rear window is nice - although this feature makes it easier to break into.
Story
This is not a "fun" story, but it's certainly memorable - I was traveling on a freeway and lost all power and it turned out to be a broken timing belt. Called a tow, got to the nearest town that I've never been to before, ended up spending the night there in this strange little town - and that's it! I have nothing more interesting to say about that little excursion!
Pros
It has reasonably good gas mileage, the extended cab feature is certainly nice. You can actually seat 3 adults including the driver in the cab - (2 in front and one person in the extended cab area). Other positives are that it sits high so that your visibility is improved. It has the feel and payload capacity of a bigger truck, while having the footprint of a passenger car.
Cons
The lack of horsepower is probably the primary issue that I have with this vehicle. Also, I have had to replace the timing belt, radiator, water pump, and now I feel that the manual transmission is ready to go. I have also had to replace the fuel tank in order for it to pass smog inspection. Although the odometer is now at 210000 miles+, I think, with age, the truck has loosened up and feels like it could expire at any moment.

This dealership was a no hassle or high sales pressure dealer. We went in to look at a specific certified car, but it was already sold. The dealer went out of his way to find a compatible car. Ended up getting a newer car with much fewer miles and still under warranty. It was an easy experience, and we did this with a tired and cranky 9 month old infant.

They were very honest and open. There was very little pressure to purchase a vehicle. They honored their advertisement that was in the newspaper (many other dealerships would not honor these deals). They worked with me on many different payment options and gave me detailed information about different financing options. It was low pressure and relaxed.
