I bought my Kia Spectra in 2008. I remember before this time, they had always told my father and I to stay away from Kias. They were not known for being reliable.. Now in 2008, Kia was becoming the underdog in performance and quality. Even after buying the car, there were naysayers. Sure the car is good, but it doesn't hold its value. That was fine with me; I drive cars until they die. In the last 8 years, besides normal maintenance and a few odd mechanical problems, this car has been incredible. The inside was roomy; could have five people in it with no issues. Traveling in it also proved no problem. Went with three other guys to the beach for a Memorial Day weekend. Us and all of our luggage fit with no issues. Another aspect of traveling, is I take a lot of trips in this car. Most 6... (more)
Story
Took this car on a one month road trip. Left from TN, and drove 13 hours up to Wisconsin for the week. Then left there to head over to Virginia, and finally down to Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Was a crazy awesome time with friends, and built a memory with that car.
Pros
Kia Spectra has fantastic gas mileage, but still has enough power to make you feel good on the road. The car has proven to be generally easy in repairs and maintenance. Nothing seems overpriced. The car has upheld over the last 8 years, giving me very little issues and little cause to be in the shop. This has given me great confidence when I take it on long road trips that it will make out there, and back. I moved up to upstate NY about five years ago, and have found this car to handle exceptionally well in bad weather. We get a ton of snow and ice up here, and I have never felt like I was... (more)
Cons
Now that the Kia Spectra is about ten years old, it seems to be showing its age from what I can tell. The outside driver's side door handle ripped off in my hand as I was trying to get inside. After taking off the inside panel and repairing the handle, I found the inside handle was also breaking. Took about a day for it to break as well. The check engine light came on earlier this year due to a faulty oxygen sensor. That was a pricy repair. Brakes seem to go fast on the Kia. Could just be from living in the north with all the bad weather, but seems like I'm always having to get them change... (more)

I bought my Kia Spectra sport hatchback in 2006 as my first new car. From the beginning with this car it was wonderful and we liked it. The car itself handles like a dream as it is low to the ground and very stable. It also provides you with a very comfortable interior. Overall there are no complaints at all with this vehicle and very few things ever cause me any concerns. It gets great gas mileage both in city and on the highway averaging about 26-32mpg. Great get up and go speed and good engine as well. Absolutely the best car that I have ever owned and had the pleasure to drive. Even though the car is older now I refuse to let go of it as I enjoy it that much.
Story
The first thing we did after buying this car is taking it the mountains and had so much fun in it through all the twists and turns! It was out sons first trip to the mountains and it snowed in April which caught us all by surprise but the car handled it like a dream.
Pros
The best things about this car is that it is simple but great handling. Very good gas mileage wherever you go and is a dream to drive. Handles great and will pick up speed and stick to the road in the corners. Overall there is nothing that I do not like about this car but those characters are by far the best. It also came with an amazing warranty program.
Cons
I have absolutely no complaints on this vehicle it has required very little maintenance and has not given me hardly any issues since I bought it.
