I truthfully don't have too many complains about this car. It's currently ten years old and still doesn't let me down. I absolutely love the gas mileage on this vehicle - since I travel a lot, that's something I look for in a car. The interior and exterior show pretty minimal wear and tear for how much use the car has gotten.
Story
I travel a lot in my car, so my best memories wouldn't be in my local area, but more so traveling to states away to visit friends/see what there is to see.
Pros
A+++ gas mileage. Very easy to upkeep.
Cons
It kind of makes a lot of noise when the air conditioning is running - I'm not sure if that's just my car, but it's been happening since I got the car in 2012. Also, the check engine & airbag lights come off and on periodically, and I've had them checked and it's just a sensor issue, apparently.

I love this Spectra. If I had known I would get such efficiency and reliability I would have parked my large SUV and bought the KIA compact a long time ago. The car is quick to get up and go and has a good stop without noticeable wear. The fuel efficiency, the smooth ride, and the responsive steering are awesome for the money. I dislike the seats - they are cheap but nothing a nice quality cover can't remedy. I love that I can get somewhere in a hurry without actually seeing the fuel gauge move. I am getting 33 mpg on hwy. The trunk is very spacious - fits camp chairs and a big cooler all at once. I also love the digital tire pressure warning I get on the dash as well as the trip odometer that allows me to keep track of my trips and the overall mileage. Couple other things that co... (more)
Story
I drove this car in 105 degree heat with the air blasted all the way and it didn't kill my wallet. and being able to zip in and get that great parking spot! Such a fun car.
Pros
Fuel efficiency and reliability. Strong, cool A/C being in Arizona. The space in the trunk and having the option to lay back seats down for (skis, fishing poles or small pieces of lumber). Being a female I am able to replace parts, such as headlight bulbs etc, with ease. There are a lot of little storage areas in this car that are great for short or long trips. And it only takes $20 to fill the gas tank. There is a generous amount of leg room, even for my six foot plus tall husband. The steering is very sooth and efficient. The stereo has 3 different channels AUX/FM/AM I can listen to m... (more)
Cons
We seem to go through a lot of tires, but that has to do with the amount of driving we do. The paint is low quality and road gravel scuffs and dings will show up on the body if not taking caution. The interior is very cheap but it is understandable since this car was made for efficiency and not necessarily comfort. If you get the timing belt replaced you will also have to replace the water pump - it is a given. The headlights could be bigger. They seem a bit small for the size of this car body. The manual transmission seems difficult for finding gears at times in comparison to other man... (more)

I bought my Kia Spectra in 2008. I remember before this time, they had always told my father and I to stay away from Kias. They were not known for being reliable.. Now in 2008, Kia was becoming the underdog in performance and quality. Even after buying the car, there were naysayers. Sure the car is good, but it doesn't hold its value. That was fine with me; I drive cars until they die. In the last 8 years, besides normal maintenance and a few odd mechanical problems, this car has been incredible. The inside was roomy; could have five people in it with no issues. Traveling in it also proved no problem. Went with three other guys to the beach for a Memorial Day weekend. Us and all of our luggage fit with no issues. Another aspect of traveling, is I take a lot of trips in this car. Most 6... (more)
Story
Took this car on a one month road trip. Left from TN, and drove 13 hours up to Wisconsin for the week. Then left there to head over to Virginia, and finally down to Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Was a crazy awesome time with friends, and built a memory with that car.
Pros
Kia Spectra has fantastic gas mileage, but still has enough power to make you feel good on the road. The car has proven to be generally easy in repairs and maintenance. Nothing seems overpriced. The car has upheld over the last 8 years, giving me very little issues and little cause to be in the shop. This has given me great confidence when I take it on long road trips that it will make out there, and back. I moved up to upstate NY about five years ago, and have found this car to handle exceptionally well in bad weather. We get a ton of snow and ice up here, and I have never felt like I was... (more)
Cons
Now that the Kia Spectra is about ten years old, it seems to be showing its age from what I can tell. The outside driver's side door handle ripped off in my hand as I was trying to get inside. After taking off the inside panel and repairing the handle, I found the inside handle was also breaking. Took about a day for it to break as well. The check engine light came on earlier this year due to a faulty oxygen sensor. That was a pricy repair. Brakes seem to go fast on the Kia. Could just be from living in the north with all the bad weather, but seems like I'm always having to get them change... (more)
