Mitsubishi Mirage Owner Ratings & Reviews

1997 Mitsubishi Mirage - Great car for a long-term owner
I've had this car for 17 years now. It gets normal city use and the occasional road trip. I have NEVER had a single problem with this car beyond normal wear and tear. I have a bad habit of not maintaining cars the way they should be - I have run this car a number of times on almost no oil and the engine still runs very well. It has never broken down. The worst that has happened is the battery ran down and I had to get a tow to get the car to the auto shop. It's a small car, but that often means I can get into places the larger cars can't.
Story
Well, it got iced in a couple of years ago, but that's because our driveway floods and after one particular flood we had a cold front that froze the car in place. That's less about the car though. I have driven this car on dirt farm roads where my husband thought we would get stuck.
Pros
This car has held up to my flaky maintenance with no problems at all. It also is nice and speedy when I want it to be. In the 17 years I've had it, the only things that needed fixing were gaskets, tires, battery, alternator, AC, and radio. I think I may have needed to get the catalytic converter fixed at one point, but I think that is also a normal wear & tear issue.
Cons
There's one electrical connection that is failing that controls speedometer, odometer and miles traveled. These displays don't work more often than they do work, and my auto guy was unable to find a replacement for the failing connection. This started about the 12th year of my ownership. Also, the radio failed pretty early on, but it was easily replaced.
2015 Mitsubishi Mirage - Extremely fuel efficient and roomy
This is a very small-looking vehicle that packs in a ton of interior space. I'm really not sure how they did it, but it's totally bigger on the inside! We have the base model so it doesn't have a lot of the bells and whistles that are available, but by far the best thing about this car is the gas mileage. We typically get 35 mpg city and 45 mpg highway. It is awesome! It only costs $20 to fill up (it has a tiny seven-gallon gas tank) but it goes easily over 300 miles per tank so we don't fill it up any more often than we would our gas guzzling minivan. The finishings are basic but good quality and have held up well to the two children that regularly trash the vehicle as well as my husband's work supplies being thrown in and around the car. The trunk space is also massive for a car this... (more)
Story
We don't have a large airport within a couple of hours of us, so when we flew across country to visit family we packed two adults, two kids in car seats, an umbrella stroller, and all of our luggage for an extended visit with family into this tiny little car for a two-hour drive to the airport. I'm sure we looking like a clown act piling out when we got there, but it worked and got 46 mpg the ... (more)
Pros
Lots of space for such a small car, fantastic gas mileage, very large trunk.
Cons
The trunk doesn't quite fit a full-size stroller, which is a bummer for our family. It does easily hold an umbrella stroller, though, so we can make do when we need to drive the car somewhere rather than our minivan. It also takes "special" low-profile tires, which many tire places local to us don't keep in stock. So when we need to buy tires we have to special order them and it takes a few days, and they are not cheap.
2015 Mitsubishi Mirage - Great mileage, reliable, cute!
It's a really cute car! Probably the cutest car that I have ever owned. Love the overall shape, and the great mileage. In the 11 months since my family purchased the car, it's been super reliable with no issues and hadn't needed anything beyond the usual regular oil changes. As a commuter car it functions amazingly well, we spend less than 30 dollars a month now for gas after getting this car. It's got a cool "economy mode" feature that helps you to save gas. While small, it's comfortable enough for my husband, daughter and I to ride around in and use for family trips. It also has a great turning radius - useful for those challenging small parking spaces. My only complaints are that the engine tends to be noisy especially when accelerating, and it's also somewhat lacking in "get up and... (more)
Story
I originally got this vehicle in March, as a replacement for my old station wagon that was on its last legs. My hope was it would be great for family road trips, with its good gas mileage and being easy to drive. Then Covid hit in earnest. Finally in October my husband and I were able to take the car for its first real road trip. We drove to the Oregon coast for a day trip. The car handled gre... (more)
Pros
Great value, reliable, amazing mileage, cute.
Cons
Noisy, slow to accelerate.
