After my old car was totaled, I needed to find a used vehicle at a low price very quickly. I bought the car from a family member, and it had some pre-existing damage. The air conditioning system is completely broken (as in, cannot simply be given freon or tuned up) and would be costly to repair, so the heat can become unbearable in the summer. The displays have faded so that the time and CD/radio information cannot be clearly read, and the light in the console has gone out. However, at over 175,000 miles, it still runs well. I commute about one and a half hours two times a week and do some local running around, and the car rarely gives me problems so long as I keep up with regular maintenance. I am a massage therapist, and due to the shape/build of this particular hatchback, my mas... (more)
Story
I often drive to a goat farm about an hour east of where I live. The drive is scenic and rural and the fresh air and occasional cool breeze makes up for the lack of air conditioning. The owner used to own a spa that I worked in, and I have been given special permission to enter the goat pen and spend time with the baby goats. The drive passing by fields of sunflowers, farmstands, and vineya... (more)
Pros
-Heats and defrosts quickly in comparison with previous vehicles I've owned -Still runs well after more than 175,000 miles and frequent use -Relatively good on gas
Cons
-Handles poorly in inclement weather - Headlights are not very bright, even after changing the bulb and polishing exterior.

It drives well, and it has held up well after forcing it up partly washed-out gravel roads and across half the country time and time again. It gets great fuel mileage for its size (about 30-35 mi/gal), and all my possessions fit in with ease. There are little problems, however, that betray a lack of forethought when designing the car. Additionally there is the issue that Pontiac no longer manufactures cars, and therefore I am worried about the availability of parts in the future if I own the car long-term.
Pros
It's the perfect size. I can fit insect nets and fishing poles and my bike inside, and yet it's small enough that I get good gas mileage and can parallel park it with ease.
Cons
The meters (odometer, speedometer, etc) are set deep in wells which have edges lined in a metallic silver. When driving at certain angles to the sun, this lining reflects an unavoidable glare into my eyes while driving. If they were a matte black to match the rest of the interior, this wouldn't be an issue. Additionally, there is a very helpful option to dim or brighten the displays (radio/clock, meters, etc). This allows the driver to adjust the displays to match the lighting, which keeps them from being too bright at night or too dim during the day (rather than a dichotomous setting adj... (more)
