This car has been super dependable. 180,000 miles and still going strong! The original battery lasted in the darn thing for 8 years! The A/C still works great and have never experienced any electrical problems. The only think we have had to replace was the alternator when the car was 7 years old. The headlights seem to get "foggy" easily. We get them cleaned professionally and it reappears too quickly. The CD player worked for only a short time but who uses CDs anymore? Gas mileage is awesome. I travel in heavy red light traffic 16 miles to work one way and I have to visit the pump once every 12 days! I have had to have very minor work done to this vehicle. The interior has held up over the years, with kids and dogs as passengers. We have cleaned crayon and food mess with ease. We have... (more)
Story
This is the car we brought our daughter home from the hospital in, and 4 years later, we brought our son home in it also.
Pros
Dependable. Gas mileage. Cute car. Long lasting A/C.
Cons
Small. Could of used more features (GPS, better radio). Security system stopped working shortly after we bought the car. Fogging headlights (I get them cleaned and the fog up again quickly).

The 2005 Toyota Matrix has been a great car. It is reliable, efficient, and comfortable. It is sporty and was good looking for years. The only ongoing issue with it is road noise—the sound of the tires and wind noise in the cabin is enough to overwhelm the radio unless you turn it up very loudly.
Story
When we were trying to sell our house. We would have to evacuate the pets and children every time there was a showing. So, that meant I would load up one toddler, one giant dog, and three cats (plus me) into the Matrix, and hang out in the car for an hour or more (summer time meant we had to stay in the car with it running). It was surprisingly comfortable with all of us in there!
Pros
Top positives were reliability & efficiency. For a young family, it was a good car. It fit two Britax child seats (one rear-facing), without having to move the front seats up to an uncomfortable point. As an added bonus, the hatch was big enough to accommodate our Old English Mastiff (130+ pounds) and the car is low enough that I could lift him in without too much trouble.
Cons
The road and wind noise in the cabin. Second, it does not have a lot of power, even for a four-cylinder.
