I've had my Golf since 2009. I thought it would be a car I owned for a few years before moving on to a bigger 4 door sedan. I was wrong. As soon as I drove it off the lot, I fell in love. It was responsive and quicker than I anticipated. The steering wheel was incredibly comfortable, as were the seats. The Golf became my everyday car. I am at about 100 thousand miles now. I've maintained it properly and take good care of it. 6 years later and I am still snapping around corners the way I did on the first day I bought it. Fuel economy has stayed constant throughout, which is great since fuel economy was a huge selling point for me. I still get complimented on the aesthetic features of the car. I do have aftermarket rims on it so they really accentuate the cars sharp features. I have a... (more)
Story
I've beaten many a friend in drag races. All legal, of course.
Pros
It's quickness, comfort, the fuel economy and the speed.
Cons
The size and the leg room.

A few years ago my parents bought me a used 2005 VW Golf outright. It had about 40,000 miles on it, was white, and a manual. This was my first car and I used it through high school and some of college. Overall it served me very well throughout the years. It never left me stranded, never needed any ridiculous repairs, and was fun to boot.
Story
I delivered pizzas for a while using my Golf. One time I pulled up to a house, forgot to put the parking brake on, and had to chase my car as it rolled down the street.
Pros
Great gas mileage (easily over 30mpgs), good looking exterior, interior is modern and well put together, good sound system with CD-changer premium stereo deck and subwoofers, very cheap oil changes (about $25), reliable.
Cons
Front wheel drive combined with it being a manual transmission made it difficult to accelerate from a dead stop without spinning the tires while it was raining outside. Power overall was relatively low even for the size of the vehicle.

Was at another VW dealer prior to this one that was difficult to work with and also lied about some hidden costs. This one was very accommodating, took extra steps to make sure I was happy with the purchase. Quick communication, transaction, and very understanding. Did not rip me off.
