I have to admit that before my husband and I purchased our 2012 Toyota Prius, we were skeptical. We had heard numerous jokes about them and thought they were sissy cars. But we completely changed our minds when we went out of town for a date and borrowed my parent’s Prius for the drive. What a great car and fun to drive! So we bought our own when our other car bit the dust. One of the biggest things that we were really surprised about is how much power it has. Being a hybrid car, we didn’t think there would be much power, but there is. We always drive it in eco mode, which isn’t the most powerful option, but it still has a great deal of get up and go. The interior is fantastic, too. We have 3 kids, and have put this car through numerous long-distance road trips and the interior is stil... (more)
Story
We moved to a city where EVERYTHING is at least 30 minutes away, so this car has definitely helped save us on gas money!
Pros
The gas mileage, the power, smooth ride, very compact and has a digital dashboard.
Cons
It can't fit 3 car seats, difficult to do your own oil change (need a special tool).

Although the Prius tends to get a bad rap, it is quite a fun, comfortable car. There is a surprising amount of leg room in the car, and the hatchback allows for more hauling capacity than one would think. Also, my Prius can has over 220,000 miles on it, and it is still going strong. Other than normal maintenance on the vehicle, I have not had to put in any money for major repairs. Another great thing about the Prius is its gas mileage. It uses both battery (not the kind you have to plug in) as well as gas and gets great highway as well as city mileage. I have been extremely pleased with my car.
Story
My husband and I went to pick up some kitchen chairs at a local consignment shop. When we pulled up, the owner said there was not way we would be able to fit four dinning room chairs, as well as have space for my husband, myself, and my son in his car seat. He was wrong. We were able to fit it all in one trip.
Pros
Although the Prius is a small car, it is surprisingly spacious. There is a lot of leg room for passengers in the backseat, and the hatchback provides for a lot of room for hauling groceries or even construction materials. It is also a very reliable car, and I have not had any major mechanical issues, which is great because I am by no means mechanically inclined!
Cons
The car has a negative stereotype surrounding it. People think of a Prius and think of tree huggers and slow drivers. Although this is a false stereotype, it is out there, and I have heard it often.
