I originally bought a Toyota Prius because of its hybrid nature. I was interested in both the environmental benefits and saving money on gas. I have been so so so happy with my Prius over the five years I've been driving it. Even though it looks like an extremely small car, it feels more spacious than one would assume. I'm not a mechanically inclined person, and very little has gone wrong with the Prius even though it's almost 10 years old - it has given me virtually no problems. I wasn't a huge fan of the aesthetic of the vehicle, but as I grow to love the car more, the look of the model is growing on me. My average gas bill is $28 a month, and I drive every day to work and travel about 2 hours on the weekends. The backseats fold down, which is great for long road trips (to nap in the... (more)
Story
Hauling 5 dogs in the back of my Prius on a roadtrip to Georgia was a fun time. The Prius is surprisingly roomy for such a small vehicle.
Pros
My favorite feature is definitely its fuel efficiency. I rarely have to fill up the tank, and when I do it's relatively cheap. It's a pretty zippy car and has great handling.
Cons
It's a small car. I live in the south where most vehicles are trucks - so being the smallest car on the road can sometimes be intimidating. I have nothing else negative to say about the Prius. It's been a lovely car.

While the Prius may seem like a smart and money-saving buy at first, it is quite the opposite over time. The gas mileage is fantastic. It's extremely quiet. But these pale in comparison to the enormous prices that you have no idea about until it happens. One day, the electric battery in my car just suddenly died, without any sort of warning, leaving me stranded until I could get a tow. Then, come to find out that since it is a proprietary piece of equipment, it would have to be ordered brand new and could not be serviced whatsoever, costing another $4,000 on top of the car itself. That was by far more than I had saved on gas or anything up until that point, and beyond. The life expectancy on the battery I had was only about 10 years. Meaning, every 10 years you would need to drop anoth... (more)
Story
A memorable story was how it was used to deliver pizzas, making me spend far less on gas than anyone else there at the time.
Pros
The gas mileage was fantastic. It was the quietest car I ever had. It also was deceivingly powerful.
Cons
The battery. The battery was a terrible design flaw that caused it to cost nearly double its price if you wanted to keep it for many years. Only viable as a car for a few years at best.
