This was the first model (Series 1) of the Toyota Prius available in the US, so they offered a 10 year/100K mile warranty since they apparently knew they would need to work out a few bugs. My wife loved it from the start. It feels solid due to the relatively high weight to size ration due to the bank of electrical batteries under the back seat. The first few years it was in and out of the shop about every other month. The main computer went dead a couple of times, needed a generator replaced, had the main battery bank replaced, along with a number of other things, ALL fixed 100% free. By the end of 3 years we figured everything that would ever go had been replaced and we basically had a brand new car after 4 years, and we were right. Nothing outside of tires and the small battery has g... (more)
Story
Drove back and forth from Las Vegas to Los Angeles on a single tank of gas, and only ran out (and had to call AAA) because we decided to go out to dinner after returning home before refilling the tank.
Pros
Unexpectedly roomy inside as it can fit 4 comfortably, 5 if one is a child. The trunk is big enough for 3-4 medium sized suit cases plus, low maintenance once the manufacturer worked all the kinks out. High MPG was extremely nice as gas prices starting climbing around the time we bought it. It still runs like new after 14 years!
Cons
This model did not come from the factory with cruise control. A big negative on long highway drives you can get a foot cramp. Not the type of car you can work on yourself if you are a car person. It needs a lot of specialty tools available only to the dealer. Tires are relatively small in diameter heavy load rated and sometimes hard to find in smaller towns for any price. - Sound system is nice but not amazing. Cannot be easily replaced as it is all controlled by the main computer screen. - Was in the shop a lot the first few years with recalls and major repairs, fixed under warranty.

2007 Toyota Prius - Very positive; no reservations regarding the Toyota brand or the Prius model.

The Toyota Prius is a wonderfully reliable vehicle. In additional to providing one of the most fuel efficient models on the market, the Prius is also very low maintenance. I purchased my 2007 model used from a non-Toyota dealership. The vehicle was in perfect condition. Outside of general maintenance on the vehicle, the Prius has incurred no additional maintenance or repair costs.
Story
The Prius once acted as the hub for a tailgate party, while surrounded by the typical pickups and SUVs.
Pros
The Toyota Prius is fully enhanced with great safety features and is one of the most reliable vehicles on the market. The fuel efficiency rivals many similar vehicles on the market, with newer models continuing to show advancements and improvements in the MPG rating. While it may not appear so from the outside of the vehicle, the inside of the vehicle is spacious and is easily converted from a passenger vehicle to providing spacious cargo room. The Prius line offers varying internal space and technology options. Incorporating the active GPS into the Prius package has been convenient, and e... (more)
Cons
As a side-effect of efficiency and great fuel mileage, the Prius does not quickly accelerate. While the vehicle can successfully navigate top speeds, it does often feel as though a strain is placed on the vehicle. Also, as with all technology, the fuel efficiency does seem to decrease as the vehicle ages. Even when newer, the fuel efficiency is highly dependent on how the vehicle is operated. Fast, high speeds greatly affect fuel efficiency to decrease. The vehicle is best operated with slow acceleration, lots of coasting and speeds between 35-45 mph.

Friendly service overall by every employee. Car salesman was very direct. A lot of used cars for cheap. I was also selling my car to them and they were very patient with me and gave me a fair rate. Their prices on used cars are very fair also.
