Cleveland, OH Driving Tips
Traffic is not bad in Cleveland, though there are parts--like on the interstates near the East Side--where rush hour traffic can be very congested. You will only move along at a snail's pace if you get caught up in that traffic. Downtown has pretty wide, expansive streets and traffic moves pretty swiftly and easily. We have a lot of public transportation but busses keep to their own lanes and don't impede traffic much (also the drivers seem to be beasts at what they do!). We have a lot of bicyclists which can cause issues, but more and more we are getting dedicated bike lanes in most areas to help combat this. Sometimes traffic becomes dense in Ohio City, especially on Friday or Saturday night because it's a huge entertainment district with a lot of bars and restaurants. We have a lot of freeways, so getting places is simple and fast, even if you have to go clear to the other side of the city. It's also a small city, so travel is pretty easy. Our roads are safe and mostly clear and easy to navigate. Signage on freeways is abundant and clear.
Cleveland, OH Buying Tips
We have plenty of 'auto miles' in and around the city in the suburbs, where there are a lot of dealers clumped together--one in particular that's popular is the Bedford Auto Mile. Craigslist has a lot of listings for cars, too. We have a lot of private sellers just like any big city. I didn't buy my car here so I can't tell you much about pricing or deals, but there's also a lot of used car lots around. The prices I've seen on the used car lots near me seem fair and I might even eventually consider a trade-in on mine to get something cheaper and more efficient. I have friends who have bought cars from used lots and they seem to be reliable and haven't had many problems. This being a small city your options are probably more limited than in a real big city, but we have plenty of new and used car dealers and I see commercials on TV all the time for sales and discounts, especially around holidays. I would say Cleveland is about average in the nation for the types and prices of cars that are regularly sold here. You can probably find a really good professional or private seller.
Favorite driving memory
In Cleveland, there are many routes to take downtown from where I live. I enjoy finding new routes to get downtown. Some routes go through busy streets with a lot of traffic and stop lights--these are hard to navigate but if you're not in a hurry you get to see so many interesting places and people. One route goes along the Shoreway and it's very scenic, but because it's a highway it's very fast and it's hard to enjoy the scenery. I like to find different scenic routes depending on how much of a hurry I'm in to get downtown. Many routes bring downtown into view quickly and it's a beautiful sight to look at. The best view is from the Shoreway though, part of which is elevated over the city and downtown rises in front of you. I love those sights. When friends come to visit and have never seen the city before, I often take them in that direction so they can look at the city on one side and the lake on the other. These are some of the best times because I enjoy my friend's reactions and their wonder at seeing such beautiful, unexpected sights.
Favorite road
Route 2/Shoreway. As explained above, the Shoreway has a great view on either side, especially right after you first get on it off of Clifton on the west end. In very short time you have Lake Erie on your left and a huge, beautiful view of downtown Cleveland on your right. It can be very distracting, especially since you're going at high speeds with a lot of other traffic, but I love it. Route 2 turns into a series of very high bridges that no only arch over parts of the city, lake, and Cuyahoga River, but then proceed to actually wind through the upper portions of the buildings it is cutting through. This is a pretty awesome sight. Eventually the route comes back to the ground and goes along the lakeshore for a while until it becomes a 'regular' road. That first portion of it though is really interesting and beautiful. It's also a fast way to get into downtown from the West Side. Several other routes run along this road and it can get pretty busy around rush hour, but sitting in traffic isn't that bad because you have beautiful sights to look at on either side. The way is also very green and there are a lot of trees.

Cleveland, OH Driving Tips
Know the major byways. Most anywhere you need to get in Cleveland is near one. It is much easier to find your way around if you already know how to go most of the way, and only have to figure out the fiddly bits at the end.
Cleveland, OH Buying Tips
If I was in the market for a new car, I like AutoList better than Craigslist. As for physical places in Cleveland to go, I would say Lorain Avenue. There are a surprising amount of car dealers on that particular road.
Favorite driving memory
The first time I drove in Cleveland, I got lost. I had finally convinced my parents I could be trusted to take my little sister driving with me for a significant distance (Cleveland being about an hour away from where we lived at the time). So I was excited but nervous. The previous times I had been in the area, I hadn't been driving. I got off at the wrong exit on Route 90. I kept expecting things to get familiar, but they didn't. Eventually the road I was on came to the lake, and I had to admit it... I had gotten us lost. The first time I had been able to leave my county, and I got lost. I had to call my dad to get me back to areas I was slightly more familiar with. It was embarrassing at the time, but it did convince me that I should pay more attention to the exact details of areas, so as not to get lost again.
Favorite road
I am very partial to Route 20.. In all honesty, I like Route 20 because it is very difficult to get lost if one stays in its general vicinity. It goes by a lot of interesting commercial ventures, and it goes through Public Square. Additionally, if I stay on it, I can go right by my father's side street in Ashtabula, Ohio. I also can easily get to my job, which is right off 20, and can get to my home in one of the outlying towns of Cleveland. So all in all, 20 is a very useful road to know.
