2009 Hyundai Tucson - Good car for the price
Overall I like the Tucson. There are a good many features like heated seats and mirrors. The seats are comfortable and are holding up very well. We put a lot of wear and tear on our Tucson and it's holding up well with almost 150,000 miles on it already. However, the air conditioning doesn't work and it's currently August, so that isn't fun. I tried to get this fixed several times with our warranty at the dealership and after several failed attempts the warranty finally expired and the issue was never resolved. I'm very disappointed in this. First of all that this part (the AC compressor) broke since our mechanic said it's not very common. Second, the garage at the dealership argued with me that it couldn't be broken. This leads me to believe they just charged the AC and didn't change ... (more)

Knowing that the AC would eventually die again but it was cheaper for them. The Tucson drives very nice. We do a mix of highway driving and back country roads. Some roads aren't paved and you don't feel like you are being thrown all over, so good shocks. The Tucson is an SUV but I've never felt nervous around corners that it might tip over. The large windows create very few blind spots which is wonderful. There aren't any air vents for the back seat which makes it hard to regulate temperature for the entire vehicle. In the front I like that there are cup holders in the center and also on both doors. The roof rack has been put to great use for our kayaks and it's easy to get them on and off. However, the roof rack is a pain to clean snow/ice off of in the winter time.
We took a road trip to Maine and on the way back decided to stop in Boston at the aquarium. We stopped at the Massachusetts visitor center to get directions. The person at the visitor center showed up the location on the WALKING map of Boston. Needless to say this didn't go well. While I had my head down reading the map telling my husband to make a left he responded with "I can't we are inside... (more)

While I had my head down reading the map telling my husband to make a left he responded with "I can't we are inside a tunnel". It took some work but we finally made it to the aquarium. We laugh about this story all the time and express our hatred of Boston.

2005 Hyundai Tucson - Crappy
I bought this car because the style was similar to my dead Subaru Forester, but I couldn't afford another Forester. For several years, I had recurring problems with the car: it would start jerking and the engine would rev oddly while sitting in park. This would also make the check engine light come on. After going to a garage and having the O2 sensors replaced twice in a year (2 different garages), it would run ok for awhile and then problems would start again and the check engine light would be back on. I could continue driving it, but the check engine light means an automatic fail at inspections. Another couple of years of problems and I finally got a garage to look at it without doing "computer diagnostics". It turned out the ignition coil was burnt nearly through. They replaced it ... They replaced it and said my problems were over. That was 4 years ago, the check engine light is on right now and has been for the past 3 years. I don't know what the problem is with that car, but it's cost me thousands of dollars in misdiagnosed problems at several garages and it is still running like crap. Also, the black plastic panels on the sides fell off a few years back. The AC only runs for about 15 minutes and then "freezes up" and starts blowing warm air.
I took the car on a road trip to Vermont with a friend and it is relatively gas-friendly.

It is still running at nearly 200k. I've just driven it even when it was balky and when I had to rev at stop lights to keep it going. During the summer, I just don't drive it very far. It is comfortable enough, although I didn't find it comfortable for the first couple of years. Plus, because the outside looks so janky and trashy since the panels fell off, I believe people tend to give me a little more berth on the road because it looks like the car has come through some battles already.

The mysterious stupid problem that is unfixable by the dozens of mechanics who have examined the car. Whatever that is. What is it NOT is O2 sensor related, as in the end I had them replaced THREE times. The computer diagnostic system for this car is a lying liar.

2006 Hyundai Tucson - Perfect car for young families
I bought my Tucson while I was shopping around for a car that was going to fit both of my boys, ages one and three, and all the things that come along with children. The Tucson was a simple choice for me. The 5-star safety testing was the first thing that really caught my attention. I also liked the look of a smaller, more compact SUV. While I wasn't completely sure what to expect, Hyundai's compact SUVs have always placed towards the top of my friends' lists. Since the day I bought the car, I have been completely satisfied with my purchase. The maintenance is low cost, the inside is clean and appears sturdy, instead of that flimsy plastic you find the dashboard is made out of in a lot of newer cars. Overall, it's been a perfect car for our family of four, and I've never been more satisfied when purchasing a vehicle.
With all of the room in the trunk and the back seat, when we purchased our son a new Big Wheel for his birthday, I was able to fold my back seats down and fit the entire box in the back, no struggles. Even the employee that was bringing it outside was surprised how easily it fit into the back with no struggle.

Aside from the excellent marks in standard safety tests, I really love the overall look of the Tucson. Overall, it's extremely roomy inside. My father is 6' 6", and there's still enough leg room for him on the passenger side. The back seat has more than enough room for my boys' bulky heavy car seats, and there's enough room that we could squeeze in one more. The 4-wheel drive is great to have in our upstate New York winters. One of the unique features is the shelf that you can use or fold in and hide. It's perfect for when I have huge grocery orders. I know that if I stack all of the lighter items on the shelf, even going around corners won't cause the heavy items to roll over on everything else.
The only real complaint I've ever had about the Tucson is that the gas mileage isn't really all that great. Granted, before the Tucson, (and two children) I had a small car that was getting 29 miles to the gallon. So when I switched and began getting 18 miles to a gallon, it was definitely a bit of a shock at first. But, I've since gotten used to it, and compared to some of the other SUVs on the market today, 18 miles probably falls right around the middle somewhere.
