2006 Honda CR-V -
I bought my used 2006 Honda CR-V a couple years ago, and absolutely love it. I have used it on hourly commutes daily, taken it on numerous road-trips, and driven it across the country twice. I've really only had to repair for normal wear-and-tear; it's still in good shape, as I bought it.
I know a lot of people with newer CR-Vs, and am familiar with their driving quality and reliability. I also trust Honda. I decided to purchase an older CR-V because it fit with my budget, and I personally prefer the design to the newer version (in 2007 the car saw a rounder redesign that, while generally improving the safety rating, decreased trunk space and back visibility).

I drove this car from Monterey down to Los Angeles on CA-1, and it handled great, especially in Big Sur. I had friends tell me to rent a better car for the drive, which can be harrowing at times and very long. My CR-V did great, and the height/visibility in the car meant I could enjoy the scenery while driving. It was such a fun drive, and so beautiful. I don't think I have ever embarked on such an involved route before, and this was probably the most exciting driving I have ever experienced. There were a couple moments early on where I wondered if I had made a mistake not taking a sportier car with 4-wheel drive, but the CR-V did great and I soon felt comfortable pushing the vehicle and really having fun with it.
My CR-V is wonderful and reliable. Smooth driving, and the gas pedal is not really sensitive (which some people prefer, but I like to really don't). Braking is good and has avoided my rear-ending many short-stoppers that I thought I would definitely hit.
I love the boxy, almost Jeep-ish shape, and the ample trunk space and folding seats that make it feel like a much larger SUV on the inside than it actually is. I am on the shorter side, and I appreciate the height of the vehicle and of my seat; I can actually see the traffic around me, and not feel claustrophobic and small on the road as ... (more)

I really love the car. I'm nearing 90,000 miles on it because this car is so great that I have become a really big road-trip person. You can back in 4 or 5 people and a full trunk easily, and don't really notice the car feeling too weighed down. I have moved across the country and back in this car, and have never had a problem. The reliability is the best thing, hands down. I expect to drive this car into the ground, and I expect that to not happen any time soon.
The biggest disappointments with my car mostly come from the fact that I bought it at a used Honda dealership, and certain parts (like the brake pads) were *just* under what was considered certified or something by the dealer. This means that while it was considered to be in good shape for car with over 78,000 miles, I had to do a good amount of work on it after about a year of ownership. The mpg rating is not the best, and the newer CR-Vs do much better.

The only thing that has broken has been something in the locking mechanism, in that I must lock it from the drivers side, and if I try to lock the car from the passenger side, the driver's door remains unlocked (I lost the FOB).
Also, the turning radius is not the best, and U-turns definitely require some finesse. And the car is not the fastest: it's totally fine when quickly merging onto a highway, but nobody is winning any drag races in my CR-V.
2014 Honda CR-V - Practical and reliable.
Although this isn't the best looking car, or the most flashy, the Honda CR-V gets you from point A to point B reliably and safely. I love the spacious backseat and trunk, and the seat-warmers are definitely a plus in the winter time. There is a light that turns on the dashboard to remind you to check your tires regularly, which is something not a lot of people remember to maintain. The backup camera is a godsend when attempting to reverse out of or into a tighter space. There is also an "Eco" mode that conserves gas and saves money overall, at the cost of a less powerful acceleration.

This car is great on hills and windy roads, it handles well, considering it's a compact SUV. Driving in my city, I come across a lot of curved streets, and large/long uphill.

The list of positive aspects include the backup camera, seat warmers, Bluetooth connection to play music, the "Eco" mode, power steering/braking, and smooth acceleration/suspension.

The only negative aspects pertain to the car's appearance; it's not very attractive and is slightly egg-shaped (though that helps it to be more aerodynamic). Still looks better than the Nissan Juke and the BMW i3!
