I bought this car about five years ago - it was at the time a ten year old car with only 63,000 miles on it, as it had been driven very gently. It had a few dings and scratches so I was a little suspicious. I had never owned a Japanese car before, so I felt like I was taking a slight risk in purchasing it, but it was affordable and I had heard many stories about Subaru's amazing reliability. As it turns out, it's the best car I've ever owned. I've taken it on multiple 400+ mile road trips with never a problem. All it needs are regular oil and fluid changes to keep it in top shape. I have had to replace a few parts on the underbody, but being a 15 year old vehicle that has to deal with salt-filled winters (the winters are terrible where I live and salt is needed for the roads) it's und... Pros
The all wheel drive system is very safe and balanced. There is a ton of cargo room. I love how comfortable it is to drive.
Cons
The seals around the door can occasionally come loose, resulting in loud road noise. The read window wiper doesn't work as well as it should.

Was originally received as a gift from a friend who moved onto a new car of their own. The car was a gift, so I don't really want to dwell on the complaints, but as you can imagine, a near 20-year-old car will not look as it did when it first left the showroom. But the engine still runs great and strong, and I was advised by my mechanic that when you get a good Japanese motor, they can run forever.
Story
Did think the front wheels/axel were going to fall off one time. We where driving on the highway and passed by one of those road crew work sites. And either a rock or screw must of somehow got up in the underside of the car, which caused it to begin making sounds, a nerving metallic noise. Anyway, it eventually fell out, but for the five to ten mins we were hearing the noise. It felt as if we ... (more)
Pros
Despite its age, it is still surviving and sometimes thrives. We live in the northeast, and the car really proved its worth this past winter during the big snow storms and was able to handle the terrain with ease. Also, its compact size makes it able to fit in cramped city parking spots.
Cons
The car will not win any beauty contests. Also, I am not sure, but from just riding in it, I believe that this car may have been one of they first small SUVs/hatchbacks to feature the ability to fold down the back seats to be able to fit in any luggage or anything that you would need room for. But as a result, sitting in the backseat of the car can sometimes be uncomfortable/cramped especially with three people sitting in the backseat (especially on road trips).
