They don't make them like they used to
Old trusty. I put over a hundred and fifty thousand miles on this car. I've owned this car over 10 years. I've never had another car last this long. I've taken this through mud, snow, up mountains, down valleys, through forests and deserts all across the entire Western United States. It's big enough to haul anything you want. But also small enough that with all-wheel drive it still gets decent gas mileage. I've never gotten this car stuck and that's a first. I've even been able to drive this car on beaches. Overall it's probably the best car I've ever owned but it does require a head gasket replacement. The newer model Subarus just weren't built to last like this one was.

Reliable
I bought this car about five years ago - it was at the time a ten year old car with only 63,000 miles on it, as it had been driven very gently. It had a few dings and scratches so I was a little suspicious. I had never owned a Japanese car before, so I felt like I was taking a slight risk in purchasing it, but it was affordable and I had heard many stories about Subaru's amazing reliability. As it turns out, it's the best car I've ever owned. I've taken it on multiple 400+ mile road trips with never a problem. All it needs are regular oil and fluid changes to keep it in top shape. I have had to replace a few parts on the underbody, but being a 15 year old vehicle that has to deal with salt-filled winters (the winters are terrible where I live and salt is needed for the roads) it's understandable that a part here and there would rot away. The four wheel drive is stable and above all, safe and the boxer engine just keeps puttering along with no complaints. It's very comfortable and with the rear seats folded down, there is a ton of room in the back. The heat, AC and air all still work perfectly. The gas mileage does leave a little to be desired, I would expect better from a 4cyl (it only gets around 22 mpg highway) but the tank is huge, so it's great for long trips.
