I have wanted a Subaru since I was a kid. I love how dependable and safe it is -- before purchasing, that is what was important in the reviews I read. I purchased an upgraded model with many bells and whistles. It is great on gas mileage and a really smooth ride. The safety features are great -- it stops on its own, beeps quite loud if I don't see the car in front of me stop, tells me when the car in front of me moves if I'm not paying attention, can beep when I go out of the lane and re-corret itself and slows and speeds up using cruise control based on the car in front of you. It truly is a car that almost drives itself, and I feel much safer driving in a society where so many people are distracted while driving. I do believe there are so many features that I can be distracted unnece... (more)
Story
I downsized from a Toyota FJ Cruiser to my Subaru -- and yet still thought I could off road like I could with my bigger car. Guess what -- I can! Lucky! Since I was in the middle of a pit of mud when I realized what I had done -- but my Subaru drove right out of it!
Pros
The best features of the car are the safety features. The car slows or stops when it gets too close to the car in front of it, will beep if the car swerves over the line and can readjust the car to get back in the lane. I feel extremely safe driving this vehicle. It is extremely comfortable, and the sunroof opens all the way to the back seat -- which is great for my two greyhounds who can stick their head up through the roof in the backseat! Too bad they are afraid of the wind!
Cons
There is a seatbelt that hangs from the far back that can be used to hook a car seat in to the car. It rattles and rattles and rattles. We have stuck a napkin in it to stop the rattling -- so far, so good as long as the napkin stays put! The feature that steers the car back into your lane is dangerous if you are just going around a bicyclist or runner on the road. You need to use your turn signal, and then the car won't correct itself. You can turn that feature off -- I have.

I just bought a brand new 2016 Subaru Forester after driving my 2001 Forester (which was also purchased new) into the ground. I had close to 300,000 miles on my old Forester, and am certain I will get that many or more on my new one! The first week I owned the new car I had to drive to Alabama to pick up my girlfriend's daughter to bring her back to Arkansas. Had it been the older car, the drive would have been much less enjoyable - it was so much louder due to weather stripping decaying that I had to blast the radio just to hear it. Not now! This new car is so quiet, I still can't get over it. I subscribe to satellite radio, and in my old car my satellite receiver was attached to a suction cup on the inside of the windshield, so changing stations was a pain. The steering wheel control... We also have an old Toyota which broke down about four miles away from home. We hooked up a tow-rope to both cars and the Forester had absolutely no problem dragging my old Toyota home.
Pros
This car is FAST - at least when comparing my older model. I live in a very rural area, and have several acres that I need to maintain. This car has no problem dealing with the terrain, even when very muddy. The options on the onboard computer are great as well - when my girlfriend drives during trips, it gives me something to play with when I'm bored - usually to her chagrin. It's also very, very comfortable - and the seat heaters are almost instantaneous - very nice on a cold night. I am also an avid "dashcammer" so I use my GoPro to record every time I drive. I didn't want to mar the da... (more)
Cons
So quiet I drive too fast! So far, that is my only complaint.
