The Subaru Forester is the fourth Subaru vehicle my family has purchased in the last decade, which speaks to our level of customer satisfaction. In our current fleet, my car is the "youngest" at 100,000 miles. It gets excellent gas mileage, especially for a small SUV, and I like that its emissions are less than those of other vehicles in class. I find the Forester physically comfortable to drive, which is important to me as I have chronic pain. The car is reliable, dependable, and handles very well across different terrains and different weather conditions. I have had some small problems with doors sticking and the headrests straining my neck, but as far as functionality in getting wherever I need to go, I couldn't be happier. I bought the car used with about 30,000 miles on it and hav... (more)
Story
Another car lost control in bad weather and spun into mine, and I went ricocheting off into a ditch. It was terrifying, but the damage was just that I got poison ivy. There was body damage, but I didn't have a scratch on me, and it made me grateful to have the car that I do.
Pros
I've had cars in the past which have overheated in bumper to bumper traffic, but this car controls engine temperature well. Cabin temperature is also consistently comfortable as both the heat and air conditioning which came standard with the car have been efficient and fool-proof over the last 70,000 miles without requiring any servicing appointments. I enjoy that the seating positions me a bit higher than in the other Subaru models my family has (Legacy, Outback), as it makes me feel safer and as though I have better visibility in traffic. I also like the storage space features built into... (more)
Cons
My previous Subaru, an Outback Sport wagon, had an indicator which would always display the direction in which one was travelling at any given time and I found this indispensible to navigation. I have missed that with this model. I have several times had problems with the oil light coming on, which had to do not with the problems indicated but with the malfunctioning of a sensor, and have heard from several other Subaru owners that this is a common problem. I wish the cage of the vehicle were higher, as it is easy to scrape along the curb or even on bumps in the road if you aren't careful.... (more)

2008 Subaru Forester - I love this car.

This is the best car I have ever had. I have put 80,000 miles on it in the 4 years that I have owned it, and I have not had 1 significant problem. There are times in my life where I take it on multiple 4 to 6 hour drives in a single week, and times that it sits and is not driven for a week, and it continues to always perform exceptionally well. I have primarily used it in New England, and the All Wheel Drive has been very reliable when there are snowy and icy road conditions.
Story
I really feel safe driving this car when it snows. I always prefer not to go out in the snow if I don't have to, but with this car I can still get out and get things done on snow days and feel safe doing so. It is the perfect New England winter car.
Pros
This is an incredibly reliable car. I always get routine oil checks and all of the recommended service and it has not let me down yet. It handles very well in ice and snow. In extreme weather, the heating and air conditioning are top notch. There is plenty of storage space inside. On multiple occasions I have folded down the backseat and easily fit inside my entire drum set, and at other times my upright bass. I feel that the gas mileage is really great for a car this size, as well.
Cons
There are not very many negative things I can speak to, since my experiences so far have been overwhelmingly positive. I do wish that the headlights were a little brighter. On really dark roads, I can't see as well as I would like to and am often forced to use the high beams.
