This car is great for anything (city driving, mountain driving, road trips) and the parts are easily changed if you want to use it for other things. I’ve found it reliable and haven’t had any mechanical problems with it yet. The trunk has a good amount of storage and the seats provide a lot of space for passengers. I also like how it looks, the shape and design are sleek and visually pleasing. It gets great gas mileage. I particularly like the car’s turn radius, I’ve found myself able to navigate some pretty tricky parking lots because of this (no need for 24-point turns). The ride is pretty smooth and the acceleration is above average. It drives well in the snow because of its four wheel drive capabilities, and it drives well on dirt and gravel roads for the same reason. I don’t parti... (more)
Story
This car took me and my boyfriend all the way down the Oregon coastline for our anniversary trip and we made many stops along the way. I even stopped at a gas station and the attendant complimented my furry hot-pink seat covers. He told me I was too cool for school. My dog was in the back and because of the smooth ride my Subaru has, he slept the whole time and never whined to be let out. We s... (more)
Pros
This car has a good turn radius, great car for city driving as well as mountain driving, great use of space and trunk storage, and very reliable.
Cons
There's a slight seal leak around the front windows that causes highway driving to be quite noisy. There is also a glitch in this particular 2008 model that causes the check engine light to come on and therefore renders the cruise control unusable.

The Subaru Forester is the fourth Subaru vehicle my family has purchased in the last decade, which speaks to our level of customer satisfaction. In our current fleet, my car is the "youngest" at 100,000 miles. It gets excellent gas mileage, especially for a small SUV, and I like that its emissions are less than those of other vehicles in class. I find the Forester physically comfortable to drive, which is important to me as I have chronic pain. The car is reliable, dependable, and handles very well across different terrains and different weather conditions. I have had some small problems with doors sticking and the headrests straining my neck, but as far as functionality in getting wherever I need to go, I couldn't be happier. I bought the car used with about 30,000 miles on it and hav... (more)
Story
Another car lost control in bad weather and spun into mine, and I went ricocheting off into a ditch. It was terrifying, but the damage was just that I got poison ivy. There was body damage, but I didn't have a scratch on me, and it made me grateful to have the car that I do.
Pros
I've had cars in the past which have overheated in bumper to bumper traffic, but this car controls engine temperature well. Cabin temperature is also consistently comfortable as both the heat and air conditioning which came standard with the car have been efficient and fool-proof over the last 70,000 miles without requiring any servicing appointments. I enjoy that the seating positions me a bit higher than in the other Subaru models my family has (Legacy, Outback), as it makes me feel safer and as though I have better visibility in traffic. I also like the storage space features built into... (more)
Cons
My previous Subaru, an Outback Sport wagon, had an indicator which would always display the direction in which one was travelling at any given time and I found this indispensible to navigation. I have missed that with this model. I have several times had problems with the oil light coming on, which had to do not with the problems indicated but with the malfunctioning of a sensor, and have heard from several other Subaru owners that this is a common problem. I wish the cage of the vehicle were higher, as it is easy to scrape along the curb or even on bumps in the road if you aren't careful.... (more)
