Overall, my 2012 Chevrolet Sonic LT was an economical choice for me as a teenager in need of my first car. My family traded in another vehicle for my Sonic, which was $17,000, enabling us to fully pay for my new Sonic in cash. The vehicle gets approximately 33 mpg because I drive mostly long distances on highways and takes about $25 to fill up with fuel. The vehicle is a four cylinder and lacks power, automatically shifting through several gears to reach full highway speed. This sometimes can be annoying when merging onto a highway from a complete stop. I often notice vehicles behind me angrily navigating around me because my vehicle starts off so slow. I'm not entirely sure if this has to do with the vehicle as a whole, but I've encountered several frequent tire issues. My Sonic is ve... (more)
Story
I've taken many road trips in my Sonic throughout my first few years of driving. Because it is so eco-friendly, it can go a really far distance without needing to fill up, and it's easy to drive because of its small size.
Pros
My 2012 Chevrolet Sonic is very fuel efficient and requires less fuel fill-ups than a typical vehicle. I find myself only paying about $25 for a fill up every 400 miles, which is great for long-distance drivers. My car was affordable ($17,000 brand new) and has a remote start feature, which is awesome for those living in climates that require defrosting in the mornings. The Sonic also performed the best among its class in safety and crash tests, which is another great peace of mind when it comes to first-time drivers on the roads. My car has many features, from Bluetooth and Apple product ... (more)
Cons
As I got older, there were more things I would change about my vehicle. After a few years of ownership, I wished I had more space in my Sonic. As I started to drive with more people in the car, I noticed how little space there is the backseat, especially in comparison to other compact cars on the market. The fabric of the seats is not the greatest, even though it hasn't torn, it retains stains easily. As far as power, my Sonic feels like a turtle. It takes a while to get up to speed, often noticeably shifting through several gears to reach full highway speed. I also notice people in cars b... (more)

2012 Chevrolet Sonic - Good enough

I bought the car used with only around 20,000 miles on it. It does not have many of the features my other car had that I had grown accustomed to, such as back-up camera, being able to listen to music through my car via Bluetooth, or the space I was used to, but it has not given me any real problems since I have had it apart from the usual upkeep. I work in disease control, and at first it seemed the trunk space was too small for even my supplies, but I discovered it has two additional compartments below the main one, which is perfect. For a small car, I expected it to have better gas mileage than it does, but it makes up for it with its smooth ride. ItÕs a hatchback, so it is not the best car for a growing family such as mine, but my job requires me to travel around 1,000 miles most mo... (more)
Story
My wife dressed up the vehicle with girly things like Hello Kitty and stickers, so I used to get made fun of some, but it is our only car after totaling two Corollas in less than two years, neither my fault, as luck would have it. So IÕm grateful to drive this feminine car around as a big part of my job covering 10 counties.
Pros
The display options are numerous and good. It allows me to see how many miles I can drive before needing to fill up, how many miles per gallon the car averages, etc. That makes the car seem advanced to be a 2012 model. The ride is very smooth and comfortable, as are the seats. The horsepower seems good for its size. The trunk has surprisingly good space with its three layers and the option to lay the seats down for more.
Cons
ItÕs a hatchback, so it does not have tons of space in the interior. It is not real sporty looking, nor does it have fancy or even for these days, some standard features such as back-up camera or adequate Bluetooth technology. The gas mileage is not as great as I was told it would be or expected it to be, even for a small car. The heater and A/C vents donÕt seem to be as potent as what IÕm accustomed to from previously owned vehicles.
