I've added about 30,000 miles to my car since I first got it over three years ago, and so far, I still enjoy zipping around in my little Focus. The car is tiny (I am 6' 3"), has no side airbags, and has minimal interior design. However, you pay for the engine in this car, not the interior or endless amount of useless features in today's vehicles. The 2.3 Duratec engine provides over 150 hp to the front wheels, and since the car only comes in a manual transmission, allows you to easily slip into the engines power band, and also allows you to keep the RPM's low to get better gas mileage. The car is not fast by any means, but it is quick. You can skirt through corners of backroads like a felon, as the front wheels screech for grip when you down shift into a sharp turn, or take off from ... (more)
Story
I was driving back from a town 3 hours away from home, I decided to get off the toll-road early and head through a mountain pass. It was mid-day, and the road was completely clear. I rolled the windows down, turned off the radio, and just let myself connect with the car as I manipulated the car's gearbox through the windy mountain roads for about 45 minutes. I could feel the car's high-end tor... (more)
Pros
Quick feeling car, 5-speed transmission, sliding moon roof, heated seats, aggressive stance (for a naturally-aspirated 4-cylinder powered car). Power everything. The interior is nothing fancy, but it fits the car's personality. Overall, the car is cheap, not super fancy, and decently quick, creating one of the better first car options for young teens looking to learn to drive a manual transmission, all while being able to keep the insurance down for their parents.
Cons
No side airbags, radio isn't loud, air conditioner is weak, clutch has always engaged rather low to the floor, MPG is low (18/21). Not a head turner by any means.

2003 Ford Focus - Keeps on going.

I purchased this vehicle used with quite a few miles on it. Luckily, it has lasted over two years now with very little repair. The inside is very roomy, and I like the comfortable seats. I mainly purchased the car for its ease of use with our child's car seat, and this car does meet that really well. The trunk is gigantic for a small car, and everything works as it should. The paint is fine and has very little damage despite being an older model. The electrical features are starting to go on the car, and those are very costly repairs. The front seats adjust back and forward quite a bit, and the seats also recline very far. Both headrests are removable which can come in very handy for loading large pieces of furniture. The sound system is original to the car and still works well. It inc... (more)
Story
I just used my car to move my family from Kansas to Colorado, and I was so happy that we loaded it with quite a bit and made it safely.
Pros
My absolute favorite thing is the amount of room, both for passengers and storage in the trunk. As a newish mom, I feel like I have to cart a lot of stuff around (strollers, diaper bags, car seats). The trunk is ginormous for a small car and can fit so much inside. The leg room is terrific for every passenger, and our car seat fits in the backseat easily even though it is a bigger one. The glove box is a decent size for odds and ends, and I totally use the in between seat storage for my many pairs of sunglasses. I enjoy the sound system as it is easy to use, and I am able to customize my r... (more)
Cons
Being a used car, some things are definitely starting to go on the car. The electrical features were the first. I can no longer roll my windows down without worrying that I may not be able to roll them up quickly. The driver side window doesn't go down without pushing the button multiple times. These seem like silly problems, but they are also super expensive to fix on this vehicle. I have had a few light problems as well especially with one headlight going out. The trunk sensor is off and will set off the alarm sometimes (three times a year, but I have no idea why). There is a security li... (more)
