This was the first car I bought all by myself, using my own credit. It was a scary decision, and I think that overall it is a good car. I think I paid more than I should have, but I also think I bought more car than I needed. It was reasonably priced. I really like the way the car looks. It is a fun color (bright red!) and has a sharp look about it. I also enjoy the leather seats and the sun roof. It also has paddle shifters which I'm not even sure how to use properly, so that is an unnecessary feature. Seems to me that this would be a nice car for a spoiled teenage/early twenties girl. Very few people who are impressed with paddle shifters are likely to buy this car. The heated seats are a nice touch as well. I live in Michigan and this car is not ideal in the snow. The windows freeze... (more)
Story
I really enjoyed driving this car through the mountains in North Carolina! On a nice warm day with all the windows and sunroof open, it was just a really fun experience. I got to test out the paddle shifters and they worked great - and I improved my driving skills!
Pros
I really like the color and style of the body. I also really enjoy the reliability. So far I haven't had any major problems with it. It gets pretty good gas mileage. I usually average about 30-35 miles per gallon on the freeway. The engine is decently powerful for what my needs are. I basically drive like a grandma so it works well for me. I use the cruise control a lot so that’s an important feature for me, and its works well. The leather seats are really nice and easy to keep clean. The heated seats are really great for winter. Its a pretty comfortable car to sit in, it has a lot of ways... (more)
Cons
The battery died sooner than I thought it would. I had to replace it about a year after I bought it. The air conditioner also quit blowing cold air shortly after I bought it. I was really poor at the time so I suffered through two summers with no air conditioning. The air filter isn’t very effective either. I often get weird smells coming through even with a new filter. I also had some problems with the tires, both of my front wheels developed those little air bubbles. I think they are called impact bubbles? I have never seen that on a tire before, so I’m not sure if it has something to do... (more)

Got it new in late 2012 to replace a 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse. I was initially considering a used Kia, but found a new one for not a whole lot more. Liked the styling of the Koup (prefer 2-doors). Build quality, fit and finish were better than expected, technology offered was good. IMO, Kia has come a long way in this regard. Looks kind of BMW-ish in profile.
Story
Going to a large party at a friend's house (where there were a fair number of gear heads), a guy walked up to me and asked (quite seriously) "when did you get a BMW?"
Pros
Bluetooth connectivity was a plus. Leather interior has held up well for over 60,000 miles. Manufacturer's warranty is very good. Gas mileage is good; I have always exceeded the EPA rating without having to "hyper-mile". I like being able to change from fully automatic to paddle-shifting mode.
Cons
Performance from the automatic transition is so-so, almost feels like a rubbery CVT at times. I would have preferred a manual transmission (almost all of my previous cars have been stick), but the manual Kias I tested just didn't feel right to me.
