My first car I ever owned was the Mazda 626. Like any person getting their first car, no matter what brand or age, initially you are going to be very excited. Likewise, I was. I was so excited the first time I took seat in my very first 1999 Mazda 626.
Story
One very memorable experience I had with this vehicle was one of my last. It was during my junior year of high-school. During the latter portion of my junior year I decided public school was no-longer for me - (this is long before I took up and received my diploma through Penn Foster online edu). I had my reasons for believing this at the time which I reserve the right to. Besides that truth, ... (more)
Pros
When I first got behind the wheel of this car I was overjoyed. My first time driving it, after just repairing an essential part with my dad left me in joy. The wheel actually handled excellent. I would be able to go pick up my friends shortly after. While driving down a major road my friend Alex, who sat beside me, said "This feels like we're flying and I like that sensation" - I couldn't agree with him more! The 99 Gen Mazda 626 gave me a wonderful first car experience that I will never forget.
Cons
However, like any car that is 15-16 years behind the market (at that current time) it was old and it did incur its own problems. I can't really call them its problems, because they were dealt with more as problems of MY own. While I did enjoy the thrill of different seat covers, fresh car smelling air fresheners, and night time driving - this car gave me some really tough experiences and lessons as well. I remember countless times I'd spent outside of O'Reilly's auto parts with my dad, independently, and with strangers - working on this car! There was even a period when it was down for mon... (more)

What can I say about the Mazda 626 LX from 2002? It was my daily driver for over 4 years and it performed great as basic transportation. The only upkeep on the car for the first three and a half years consisted of routine maintenance. Oil changes, air filters, etc. The build quality of the interior is very reminiscent of just about every early 00's American entry level built. Although the 626 is a Mazda, one would think Japanese, but no. The car was built in America at a time when American cars still had big gaps in the dash. Rattling plastic panels, and uncomfortable cloth upholstered seats. The outside of the car itself is not unique in any way. It is downright boring. It's one of the many four door sedans you see drive by on a daily basis and pay no attention to. The lines aren't s... (more)
Story
Driving up to Maine from South Florida before the motor mounts broke. It was an amazing road trip and that car surprisingly made it.
Pros
Didn't call attention Reliable Aluminum Rims Low mileage Previous owner took care of it Inexpensive tires Relatively decent on gas Easy to clean (silver) Automatic AC vents Cheap replacement parts
Cons
Ugly No sunroof Manual cloth seats Not enough horsepower Not enough space in rear seats Transmission shifts rough Spends more gas than it should Small trunk space for a sedan Sound system is way below par Loud inside cabin at higher speeds

We needed a new car after our last one was totaled. In shopping around, my wife took a fancy to the Mazda 626. We took a test drive and were impressed with the vehicle. The suspension and handling are good. The sight lines are good, and there are not really any problems with blind spots. There is plenty of pick up. Over the span of the 8 years we've owned it, we have had minimal maintenance issues with the car, despite my lackadaisical efforts to adhere to any kind of maintenance schedule. I have not had problems finding parts for the minor repairs I’ve needed to do. It has also been easy to find someone to service the car when I couldn’t fix the problem myself. The car has accommodated us well both as a newly married couple and also as a young family of four. Installing car seats has ... (more)
Story
We were driving from Chattanooga to Atlanta during the time our first child was giving up her pacifier. In the middle of the drive we pitched the passie out the window!
Pros
The vehicle has been very reliable, with no major system failures. We like how it looks. It's comfortable to drive and powerful enough for our needs. Also, it is compatible with our kids' car seats. The air conditioner and heater are adequate.
Cons
No real problems with the vehicle for many years. Recently the radio died.
