2014 Mazda CX-5 - Good car but still small

Overall good car, but not a lot of space for passengers. This car handles like a car, and does well on highways and curvy roads alike. The gas mileage is good for a crossover vehicle.
Story
We drove the car to my family's house in WV and stopped at a beautiful spot on top of the mountain. If was very peaceful and quiet.
Pros
There is room to put a bicycle in the back of the vehicle if the back seats are put down. I only have to put my bike on the rack on top of the car if there is more than one bike, or if the back is packed for a road trip.
Cons
The back seat is rather small. If I sit in the back, my knees touch the seat in front of me. Our child's car seat being in the car requires removal of the head rest from the seat in front of it. This makes that seat very uncomfortable for long trips, as well as a bit unsafe. The hatchback door is designed so that it is impossible to mount a bike rack on the back of the car. The car doesn't come with a tow hitch standard. This means that, if the back of the vehicle is packed for a trip, my bike has to go on top of the car. I am not a tall person, so I often have to enlist the help of my hu... (more)

I absolutely love my CX-5. Not only does it look great, but it is just fun to drive. It has that "zoom zoom" that Mazda advertises. The acceleration and handling are great, and I really enjoy the drive. The gas mileage has been surprisingly good for a slightly larger vehicle, even with lots of in city driving. I have owned it for over two years and have had absolutely zero maintenance issues outside of regular service. The cabin is very comfortable, even in the lower level cloth seat options. Passengers in the back seat also have plenty of space and is a great vehicle to take on a road trip, even with several adults. I am absolutely spoiled now with the back up camera and the blind spot monitors & I can't imagine how many little dings and dents those have saved me over the years. The o... (more)
Story
We went floating down the river on inner tubes and needed to get them to the river after inflating them. I managed to get five fully inflated inner tubes in the vehicle with me on the way to our day on the water!
Pros
There are a lot of things to like about the CX-5. In terms of performance, it has been incredibly fun to drive, gotten good gas mileage, and has handled well in all conditions (including heavy Lake Effect snow in Buffalo, NY). Aside from regular service, I have not had to take the car in for service at all. That is a huge relief in just knowing that you have such a reliable vehicle in the driveway. In regards to the comfort aspects of the vehicle, the upgraded BOSE sound system has been great. The moon roof also makes the interior seem much roomier. I also like the touch screen interface a... Cons
The negatives about the CX-5 are pretty minimal. First, I think the touch screen interface could do much more, it isn't as easy to use as you think it should be. Linking phones into the system isn't the easiest thing to do and it is confusing to charge and link a phone into the system at the same time. In terms of the radio, it is annoying that there is no way to just scan the radio stations from the steering wheel buttons, you can only move to pre set stations. Another small issue is the rear view camera, it is a fantastic tool, but too often when it is snowy, icy, or rainy, the lens are ... (more)

This vehicle is a quality automobile at a much lower price than models in the similar class. After test driving a Toyota RAV-4 and the Honda CRV, I was impressed by the superior handling and smoothness of the drive. With the initial drives of the Toyota and Honda, I noted a distinct shift when the car would transition between gears. With the Mazda, it was seamless, and I can only feel or hear the shift when I'm accelerating quickly, generally from a stop to a highway speed. I have also found it comfortable to sit and travel. The driver's side seating has multiple settings and allows for ease of adjustment for the lumbar support. The kids in the back feel that they have ample room and love when they can sit in the front and play with the many features, including, but not limited to, the... (more)
Story
We took this vehicle to our daughters softball tournament a few hours away and had a great time travelling there and singing to the radio, stopping to take pictures of random sights along the way and basically making it a road trip that ended with some great ball games.
Pros
Favorite features include the rearview camera, the console controls near the center arm rest, and the blindside alert when passing. I find it quite comfortable and plenty of room for the whole family to sit comfortably. Gas mileage is also great for this class of vehicle coming in at roughly 29 MPH highway.
Cons
Find I have issues with the video screen periodically cutting out. Would love if it had third-row seating available for those few moments when we may have additional people with us.
