2015 Mazda CX-5 - Great value for a well-made small SUV: the Mazda CX5

My Mazda CX5 performs extremely well. Even after having bought it used with 18,000 miles on it, I've had no trouble during the time that I've owned it. I drive it to and from work around 20 miles every day. The interior quality is great -- and is the main reason we went with the CX5 over the Rav4. The dash display is sleek and most everything is digital. The fabric on the seats is very nice. The exterior shape is nice and there is plenty of trunk space. Unfortunately, unlike some other brands we looked at, the CX5 doesn't come with rubber floor mats, which would have been nice. Also, the pick-up (acceleration) from a stop isn't the best.
Story
A few weekends ago, we packed up the CX5 and took our new baby on her first car trip up to the mountains in Steamboat Springs, CO. It did a great job of hauling us, her pack-n-play, a humidifier, 2 strollers, a diaper bag, a ton of baby supplies, and all of our clothes up the mountain!
Pros
My favorite features of this vehicle are mostly in the design and in how it looks. The front dash display is clean and has a video screen that has a rear-facing camera for backing up. It syncs up extremely easily to smartphones and other Bluetooth devices. It's simple to play a podcast, listen to Spotify, or answer a phone call through the car. The interior materials used for the seats don't look cheap at all, compared to other brands in the same price range. The exterior is appealing -- it's not to large or clunky. The fuel economy is great. I traded in a small car to get this SUV and the... (more)
Cons
Unfortunately, unlike some other brands, the Mazda CX5 doesn't come with rubber floor mats. You have to buy those separately. In my opinion, most people buying a small SUV would like rubber floor mats. The pick-up from a stop in my Mazda CX5 isn't great either. I find myself with the pedal to the floor a lot of times and I'm not a crazy driver, by any means.

This is my second Mazda. The CX-5 is cute, sporty and has tons of trunk room. As a teacher and a mom of four kids, safety and trunk room is really important. I really appreciate the warning beeps when changing lanes - that is a great feature. The ride is fairly smooth, quiet, and comfortable for the driver as well as the passengers. The leg room in the back is a bit limited, but it is comfortable enough for shorter rides. There are quite a few little cubby holes and storage spaces in the cabin, but I wish there were cup holders on the doors as well. The vehicle's heating and air conditioning is quick and effective. There is no heating/air vents for rear passengers however. I get pretty good mileage on the highways but only standard mileage on streets. The CX-5 is responsive and fairly ... (more)
Story
I live in the desert, where the weather can be pretty extreme. We have days where the temperature is over 110 degrees and other days where the temperature drops to 18 degrees or below. One super hot summer day, my children and I were driving towards our favorite hiking spot. All of a sudden, a thunderstorm popped up and it started to pour. It was still hot, despite the rain, so I stopped the c... (more)
Pros
Sporty design, easy to drive, love the lane-change warning indicator, pretty good mileage, roomy trunk, comfortable in both the front and rear seats, looks like a luxury brand vehicle, and good safety ratings.
Cons
Needs more cup holders, no air vents for the rear passengers, and a bit of a lag going up hills.

The main selling feature about this car was space. The backseat has ample leg room for most anybody. The trunk space also has a large area of space with no plastic protruding and taking space away. The seats also lay flat allowing for many items to fit perfectly. The navigation system and audio work great. The material quality is highly exceptional, as well. The driver seat is full power and also includes lumbar support. The ride is very smooth, and does not feel like you are sitting high off the ground. The vehicle also has blind-spot monitoring which is great in city/highway settings as well as AFS headlights.
Story
I enjoy driving the vehicle just to drive it because of the nice ride.
Pros
Top favorite features of the car are: navigation, audio- including Bluetooth, USB, aux in, Sirius satellite radio and option for Pandora radio, sunroof, heated seats, and dual A/C. The seats seem to be made from high quality material and are easy to clean. Another feature is keyless entry and keyless start. Just a press of a button and you can choose which doors unlock/lock, and the keys don't even have to be out! It is also very simple to change the key fob battery.
Cons
One negative thing I have noticed is that the navigation system occasionally doesn't work. On certain trips, only two or three in seven months, the navigation system has frozen and does not work until the car is restarted. One time it was while trying to view traffic, and the other time was for no apparent reason. The button did not work, and you could not view the navigation screen. Once the car was restarted however, everything worked again. Another con is that when this has happened, all saved locations/recent destinations are erased and have to be re-entered into the system.
