This car replaced my previous 1999 Saturn SC2 which had served me well for years. However, I now live in Buffalo, NY and the winters were a bit harder on my car so I upgraded to an AWD SUV. I must say, this handles much better in the snow and it still gets good gas mileage to work on the highways. I was worried at first about adjusting to a larger car, but it maneuvers well, has a tight turning radius, and I love the backup camera for helping back into spots. It may sound silly, but I've also really appreciated the Bluetooth connection for my phone because now I can listen to podcasts easily on my commute each day and it's helped me keep up with the content I enjoy.
Story
My wife and I went camping with my father-in-law and mother-in-law. It had enough room that we were able to bring all of our supplies, our cooler full of food, the firewood to cook on, and I had room left over to bring my guitar. If we weren't able to bring everything, it would have been a hassle to drive into town for more supplies, and we were able to have a relaxing weekend without any st... (more)
Pros
This car has a lot of storage space, it handles well in slick conditions, and it still manages to get ~30 mpg. I love that I can put the seats down and pack the whole car with camping gear, the roof rack is a great spot for a rooftop carrier, and being able to bring all of that stuff makes camping much more comfortable. It's also important in the Buffalo winters that I have AWD to handle icy conditions. In almost 2 years of ownership, I haven't had any roads that I couldn't handle, even going up the hill to my parent's house for Christmas wasn't a challenge with the AWD to help out. Fo... (more)
Cons
I wish I had gotten a new car that had integration with Google Auto. As a person who has an Android phone, I appreciate the things Google is putting into car technology and would like to see that in more cars rolling off the assembly line. I sometimes feel like the amount of space in the car is too much, like when I'm driving by myself to work. There's all that room and I'm the only person in the car, it feels like a waste. I also don't like that the back hatch is curved so any large items I put in the back have to be within the frame of the car or I risk breaking the back window. Whe... (more)

I bought my Mazda CX-5 a year after my mother purchased the same vehicle (the 2013 model). At the time, I owned a Scion tC and liked it okay, but I was in the market for a larger vehicle. I had borrowed her car several times, and I loved the way it handled. Driving the CX-5 feels more like driving a car than SUV -- it handles well, accelerates smoothly and quickly, and doesn't feel bulky. Yet, it has all the space and comfort of a small SUV. I test drove several other small SUVs, but none of them were as fun to drive, and I loved the smooth body style of the CX-5. The interior is roomy and modern looking. It's hard to put into words, but some SUVs can feel ... like they should be driven by my grandmother. Both the interior and exterior styling of the CX-5 feels like it's meant for my d... (more)
Story
I often take my dogs to a local state park, and they love riding in the CX-5. I put the back seats down and they jockey for position on the center console so they can see where we're going. And, since I can put the seats down, it's so much easier to clean my car after the dogs get all muddy in the lake!
Pros
First of all, I've had zero trouble with this vehicle. The maintenance cost is fairly average (just for your standard oil changes and tire rotations), and I've had to spend no extra money on other issues. I currently have nearly 75,000 miles on my CX-5, and it runs beautifully. I feel like it's going to last me many, many years. With the back seats down, you can easily pack the vehicle to capacity -- I once took a trip to IKEA and bought an entire suite of bedroom furniture, along with some accent pieces and a huge bag of other knick-knacks and fit it all easily in the back of my CX-5! The... (more)
Cons
To be honest, the only con I've encountered is that there are so many other people who own this vehicle. Hilariously enough, my boyfriend also has a CX-5 in the exact same color, so we have to glance at the tags on the back of our cars to make sure we're walking to the right one! It's not a vehicle that screams "unique and quirky."
