It handled great in winter weather. It was able to move on icy roads. It did not stop as well on icy roads, but I was able to stop it.
Story
In a big ice storm, I was able to drive while around me other cars were not able to.
Pros
It was able to move forward on snowy and icy roads. The cruise control worked very well on the highway and was quite enjoyable. The radio worked pretty well, and it was nice to have so many band widths I could use. In the last six months, one of the radio station buttons stopped working, however. There were a lot of spaces to put things, such as cup holders. There were pockets in the sides of the car to put things as well. The rear of the hatchback was really roomy, and I could fit a lot of things in it. There was also a privacy covering in the back that was great for hiding things from ou... (more)
Cons
It seems like I have to take it into the shop at least once a year. The brakes fail mainly. When the heat turned on, sometimes there was also a bad smell that accompanied it. The emergency brake was really hard to pull up all the way.

2004 Subaru Outback - Subaru Outback is a safe family car.

It is small enough to be manageable, but large enough to fit my family of four and our three dogs. The Outback performs extremely well in the snow, and has been reliable to drive into the mountains. I live in a state with pretty bad winters, and this vehicle has taken the stress out of winter driving. Overall, I really love this car. The interior of the car is basic but comfortable. The seats are cloth which is good in both summer and winter. I love that my car has a roof rack in case our family decides to go skiing or snowboarding, and has front and rear windshield wipers. Overall, this car is not a luxury vehicle and does not have any luxury features. It is not... (more)
Story
We have packed this car full and taken our three dogs and baby camping in the mountains of Colorado, which was really fun.
Pros
4 wheel drive, comfortable interior, large trunk, roof rack, easy maintenance.
Cons
Not fast or fancy.
