The first thing I noticed about the vehicle was just its general appearance. The Ford Escape is a mid-sized, four door vehicle which is perfect for my husband and I because we have a large dog and we are starting to think about having children in the near future. I am particularly fond of the Escapes that are right around that year, 2005 to 2007, because they look sleek and modern, with a bit of a vintage flair because the vehicle is a little bit boxy with rounded edges. From the first test drive till now, the vehicle has provided a very smooth ride in general. Going over bumps and pockets in the road is no problem, and the transmission (in this case a 5 speed manual) shifts smoothly and without any problems at all. The interior is durable but attractive, and the stereo and speakers th... (more)
Story
My husband and I took the vehicle to Colorado for our honeymoon a little over two years ago. We got lost while trying to find a ghost town out in the mountains, and ended up doing a little bit of off-roading we hadn't intended to do. The car came through for us, though, and we ended up finding a beautiful little meadow on the side of the mountain, surrounded by aspen trees, where we stopped to... (more)
Pros
The Ford Escape is quite roomy, with a large trunk. And as a bonus, the back seats fold completely flat, which doubles the trunk space, which is fantastic for us since we have a big dog who loves car rides. The actual door on the trunk is fantastic too, because not only does it open completely as a hatch back, but you can also open the rear windshield. I find that particularly useful when I am stacking things in the trunk or really don't need to pull the door open the entire way. The Escape also has plenty of storage and pockets on the interior, in the front, the back seats, and even in th... (more)
Cons
The biggest problem I have encountered with this vehicle is that it does have a few electrical problems. The vehicle is equipped with several relays and switches that have a tendency to begin to go bad over time. And for the most part, the relays are non-removable, meaning that if the relay for something crucial goes bad, such as the reverse lights, the entire junction (fuse) box under the hood has to be replaced, which is not a particularly cheap repair. Although the vehicle is available in all-wheel drive, it was not available in four-wheel drive as far as I know. The two wheel drive mod... (more)

The Toyota Rav4 is a well built car. There is nothing cheap about the interior or exterior of the vehicle. The seats are very comfortable. It is the perfect size for me to drive and it is a smooth ride. The car is a perfect height for myself to step into and for the dog to jump as well. I do not worry about driving it in the snow; it is AWD and goes like a tank. It is very low maintenance in terms of service and parts, even for being nearly 10 years old. While I am driving, the interior is very quiet. And there is no lacking for horse power; there is no hesitation to get moving. I have no problems climbing the hills/mountains around here. I can haul with the vehicle as well. There was enough head room for us to install a DVD player for those in the backseat and it does not interfere wi... (more)
Story
While on vacation, we were able to take the vehicle out onto a beach that allowed vehicles to drive on the sand and we had no troubles getting around.
Pros
My favorite feature is the horse power it offers for that size of a vehicle. The interior is comfortable and family-friendly. And I am Toyota loyal.
Cons
I would like a little bit better gas mileage and/or bigger tank. The belt tends to squeal.
