I love the VW company in general. I have owned ten different models over the years, but the 2001 VW Cabrio GLX is my favorite. Fun to drive, sporty, easy to maintain, and great gas mileage. The leather seats deteriorate quickly, and the sound system will need an upgrade, but this is simple and easy to do. I highly recommend the manual over the automatic, as the ABA transmission is very well built and will last forever if you treat it properly. It is small and easy to park, but since it is a convertible, you can comfortably fit five people into it. Did you know the original designers of the Rabbit convertible designed the trunk to be large enough to hold enough beer for four German guys for a whole weekend? Very roomy.
Story
Driving down Holly Beach with fishing rods sticking out the back. I had a blast, since they are not super common down here in Louisiana where most people like pick-up trucks and big SUVs. So even though it wasn't perfect, it turned a lot of heads all the same.
Pros
It is fun to drive with great gas mileage.
Cons
Leather interior breaks down quickly, and the stereo is outdated and speakers are weak.

The 2001 Volkswagen Cabrio convertible has great looks and many people comment on it continuously. Surprisingly it does well in the Midwest winters on snow and ice. I had been told how well the Cabrio would be on gas mileage but was astonished at how great it is. For a compact vehicle it is quite comfortable and more room in the back seat and trunk than expected.
Story
It is tough to get into the Cabrio and head to work everyday because you just want to keep driving. Many times I have just wanted to drive on by my work location with the top down and see where it takes me.
Pros
The convertible top is easy up/down and still looks like new. The alarm system is a great feature and seems better than other vehicles. Driving the Cabrio is fun and smooth for a five speed. Few repairs with this vehicle, just normal upkeep.
Cons
Does not have power windows which would be better. The body is white with a black convertible top, which looks nice, but is extremely hard to keep clean in a winter environment. I am only 5'3" and great for my size but any one in the 6' range seems restricted.
