This car has everything that I need and more in a dream car. It's not perfect by any means but it has been reliable and always gotten me to point a and b without any problems whatsoever. I haven't had any serious issues with it since the day that I first purchased it. I was recommended this car by a friend of mine and it hasn't disappointed me whatsoever. I think that it is one of the best, if not the very best car that I have ever owned. I would probably recommend it to my friends if they are looking for something that is dependable and reliable. It is comfortable and I don't feel like I am at risk when I am driving it. I think that it the safest that I have ever felt in a vehicle and it provides a nice driving experience. It is a good car for road trips and there is plenty of roo... (more)
Story
Taking a road trip to a city nearby.
Pros
My favorite things about the car is it's comfort and how safe I feel.
Cons
The only thing that could be better is maybe the mileage - but even that isn't something to complain about!

The Passat is not very flashy, but it will age well in terms of its design, and you appreciate how it is not very complicated. All of the controls are logical. The only options ours has are the automatic transmission (thankfully not DSG) and a navigation system. The 5-cylinder engine is powerful enough (9 seconds 0-60, if that matters to you), and has a sound that sets it apart from other 4-cylinder rivals. The fuel economy is not awesome, but it is still better in real world driving than my friend's new Ford Fusion or my parents' Toyotas, averaging around 26 mpg.
Story
We were able to take 4 adults on a 4 hour round-trip car trip with no problems. There was actually more room in the Passat than sitting at home on the sofa.
Pros
My favorite feature of the vehicle is how much room it has, both in the trunk and the backseat. This makes it extremely comfortable for adults to sit in the back for long trips, and it is easy to put a car seat into. The ride quality is excellent. It feels very planted on the highway, and has excellent crash test scores.
Cons
I am a bit worried about the long-term durability of the vehicle, as the driver's door occasionally will not open in cold (sub-freezing) weather, and we had a bit of a scare with the back passenger window not wanting to roll back up a few weeks ago. The transmission and engine are very reliable compared to other VW products, though.

I bought the car after basic training. I was originally looking for a more sporty car or muscle car until I test drove the Passat. I didn't know it at the time but the turbo charged engine was amazing. The interior was very comfortable, the car was very responsive, very spacious, great in the Colorado weather and the turbo engine. It was defiantly a surprise when I first test drove the car. I was expecting a typical family car and ended up with my favorite car.
Story
I was at a light after driving 12 hours to Colorado from Texas. There was a Mustang next to me with a young driver like myself. He wanted to show off is car and take off when the light turned green. When the light turned green I floored it and left the mustang driver shocked. He had no idea my family car was so fast. He made it a point to tell me how impressed he was and ask some questions abo... (more)
Pros
Turbo engine is by far the best part of the car and no on suspects your family vehicle to outperform their car. The space. There was so much trunk and backseat space it made moving very easy. Comfort. The car was very comfortable to drive. I was able to drive 12 hours nonstop and feel great afterward.
Cons
It looks like your typical Family car. It is a long car. Parking in some spaces can be difficult because of the length.
