I owned a 1999 New Volkswagen Beetle. I had it for about 3 years. There were many great things to this car. I loved the rounded style and the blue color. I loved the six change CD player and the way the dashboard was designed. It had comfortable seating and a large backseat, as well as a large trunk for the size of car it was. I didn't like how it would rattle if you drove over 65 MPH. I also didn't like the electrical system. Every other week I had to replace a bulb in the front and back headlights. I also had some issues with the electrical components on the dashboard and had to replace those.
Story
One thing that was memorable was going to basketball games. My friends and I would travel to watch our high school basketball games in this car. There was plenty of room for 4 people comfortably and it was a lot of fun.
Pros
My favorite thing about this car was that it drove really nice in the city. It was easy to park and maneuver around. I loved the gray interior and how big the front window was. It also had a lot of storage in the trunk and back seat. I like that it had a 6 changer for CDs and the radio worked really well. The air conditioner and heater also worked great. I am short so this car was really nice for me to drive because the pedals were forward enough.
Cons
There are two major problems with this car. The first problem is how much it shakes when you are on the free way. If you stay around 65 MPH it is okay but still loud. If you go with the flow of traffic and it is faster then that then the car shakes and is really loud. The second problem is the electrical. I had nothing but issues with the electrical with this car. My dad works on cars so luckily he was able to fix most problems or it would have been really expensive. He was constantly changing bulbs and replacing electrical parts the entire time I had this car.

My car is a red Volkswagen New Beetle that I purchased as a certified pre-owned in my hometown. I always liked this brand & wanted to own one. My folks in my family own a VW & are pleased with their purchase so I decided to take a chance. I originally wanted the GTI hatchback VW but that model was pricier than I was willing to pay for a used car. I always thought the VW Beetles were cute alternative to the GTI or Jetta VW, so I chose it. The heated seats, sunroof & cream leather interior really sold me. I feel I got a fairly good price on it too. I like the retro/modern style, the response & the agility of the car. It is great for shopping in the city or driving to work & easy to park. The color is beautiful, it really pops & has stayed vibrant over the years. I choose a tan leat... (more)
Story
One year I took this car to the beach & had an awesome time. My mate and I were to tailgate, grill & blast my sound system for hours. We had a wonderful day & looked good doing it.
Pros
I love the form & function of the Volkswagen New Beetle. The style is a different take on the old version of the Beetle & looks very modern & cool. My car rides smoothly & navigates well. My favorite features are the sunroof & the stereo I can plug my media player (iPod) into.
Cons
The main con would be not as much room as I'd like. It is a 2 door, so its not great for transporting more than a couple people for long drives. Also, the gas mileage for such a small car leaves much to be desired.

I love my Volkswagen Beetle! I have wanted one since I was a little kid, and now that I've grown up, gotten a "big girl job," and was finally able to buy one for myself, I'm happy to report that I'm every bit as thrilled with it as I always imagined I would be. True, a Beetle is not the car for everyone; it's not as suited to tall people, and not the best choice for someone who needs to transport lots of stuff or lots of passengers, but for me, a short, single lady, it's perfect. It's just the right size for me; I like how well I can see all around through the windows and mirrors, and while the boot is small, it's plenty big enough for a load of groceries. The gas mileage is amazing, and it's easy to park. On top of all that, it is a head turner, despite not being an expensive luxury c... (more)
Story
I bought the car in January, but that didn't stop me from trying out the convertible top right away. That got me some weird looks!
Pros
Sufficient for my needs, without being too much Relatively inexpensive Amazing gas mileage Easy to park Stands out Heated seats AM/FM stereo with CD player and Aux port
Cons
Not much cargo capacity Little room for passengers Small engine compartment makes maintenance a little tricky Other drivers sometimes behave badly around small cars
