I’ve always liked Slug Bugs. Having one was my dream car since I was in middle school, and then I finally got one. I’m not a car girl: I don’t care about specs or speed; I want my car to be safe and work. The fact the car is awesome looking is the added bonus. I’ve had problems with it about once a year, mostly electrical. But it goes when I tell it to go, and gets me where I need to go.
Story
Driving back and forth to college singing along to my CDs.
Pros
It gets good gas mileage, about 32 miles per gallon. For being a tiny car, which is a good thing in my book, it is actually pretty good for tall people because the roof is tall. It's cute. It's one of the only girly looking cars, and maybe that's a negative for some people, but it's positive for me. It runs well. I haven't had a serious mechanical problem with it.
Cons
The electrical problems have mostly been with the headlights (loose socket) and the windows. My car is a convertible, and whenever you open or close the door the windows tuck themselves under the canvas roof. When that feature breaks, it’s annoying. Also, passengers always thinking the door is locked because you have to hold the handle for a second before it lowers the window to open the door. There is no room in the back seat and the trunk is tiny. I had a roommate call it a “second glove box,” and I can’t say she was inaccurate.

This car is very reliable, which is a good thing because when something does go wrong, it's very expensive to replace. That being said, it rarely happens. Gas mileage is acceptable and it's roomier than you'd expect. All in all, a good car for the price.
Story
Despite how small they look on the outside, they're really quite roomy. I just managed to cram an entire porch bench in the back and make it home with no problems.
Pros
Inexpensive (comparatively) Reliable Good gas mileage Comfortable
Cons
Parts are expensive Moving the seats back in not automatic

My car is a 1999 model vw new beetle. It has a 5 speed with a 1.8 liter gasoline powered engine; it also has turbo so it really has a lot of power. It has a grey cloth interior and a power sunroof and it is equipped with anti lock break, front and side air bags, power everything, and a security system. Its midnight blue and has aluminum rims with low profile tires. I get great gas mileage. It may be small but it is roomy, I think that is the one misconception people have about the VW Beetles. I get great gas mileage about 40mpg. It is a 5 speed 1.8 liter with turbo and it really has some power. It registers for 160 and I do believe it could do it. I love to go camping and hiking and my hatchback can accommodate tents, sleeping bags, and fishing poles. So much for people who assume tha... (more)
Story
once my sister got stuck four wheeling and she called me for help. ironically my lil vw bug made it atop this hillside that her dodge Durango 4x4 couldn't handle. we attached her tow line to my lil loop on my frame and my lil car was able to pull her giant 4x4 free and save the day.
Pros
It is small and easy to drive, I can get in parking spots that others can't & it's a breeze to maneuver such as parallel parking and things like that. I get great gas mileage and it has a ton of power. It also has turbo so it has a lot of get up and go when needed. It has a power sun roof, a security system, a multi disk cd player and a mp3 player. I like the conveniently placed numerous ac power supplies. I like the hatchback it gives me a lot of storage space. I also like the oversized headlights, it makes night time driving a breeze. I like the signals being on the front and sides of th... (more)
Cons
My biggest con is the reverse. VW's that have 5 speeds the reverse is over and up, as opposed to every other standard I have driven where its over and down. It makes it easy to put into first and you think its in reverse or vice versa which almost caused several accidents. I don't like the fact that I fit in peoples blind spots, several times I have had SUV's cut over on me and cut me off. It's so small that I feel like if I were to have an accident I would get injured & sometimes the security system sounds off for no reason and scares the hell out of me or people standing nearby. When the... (more)
