Amazing Quality Van
I upgraded from a Chrysler Town and Country to the Volkswagen Routan about a year ago. I am extremely happy with the overall experience I have had with this vehicle. The interior is very nice with satellite radio and a rear DVD player. There is plenty of room in the van for my children, my dogs, and myself. I have taken this van on quite a few road trips with all three of my children and I have not heard one complaint about being uncomfortable or being bored at all. I love that I am able to store items in the floor storage areas, keeping them out of the way when we are spending a lot of time on the road. I also really like it that it doesn’t look exactly like all the other minivans out there. It has its own style that seems to make it look more like a Volkswagen than a traditional minivan. I would gladly buy a newer version of this van in the future when I need a new vehicle.

Expensive to repair
The Routan is a beautiful and sleek minivan but suffers from a few important flaws. First, for some reason, the brakes wear out incredibly quickly on this van. The cost to repair or replace anything makes it not worth the expense. While it is a smooth ride, I had transmission problems at 60,000 miles that cost almost $2,000 to repair. I've also run into an issue where my car alarm goes off while I'm driving, and all I can do is wait for it to stop, yet no one can figure out why it's doing this. The EGR valve has had to be replaced twice within two years. All of these little (and big) things add up and make it an expensive car to own.

Great family vehicle
When looking to purchase a vehicle, I needed to find something that not only looked nice and fit my large family of six, but that was also comfortable and in my price range. The Routan is very comfortable and spacious without begin to obnoxious in length. The kids love the face that they have leg room and two DVD screens that allow them to watch two different movies at the same time. While comfort is definitely a requirement, I also needed storage space. The Routan not only provides rear storage but also gives me two extra storage containers under the first row of seats. This vehicle has been a pleasant vehicle for long roads trips and even just around town. I wouldn't hesitate to purchase this vehicle or one like it again.
