This car was roughly 10 years old when I purchased it and only had 1 owner before myself. It has regular check-engine light incidents, about half which will resolve themselves, causing the engine light to go off within 24 hours. I have had to make several critical and costly repairs to the car within the 4 years that I've owned it. Many small repairs are needed as well, such as the CD drive stopped working, one of the outlets needs repair, and one of the handles to move the seats forward needs replacement due to shoddy workmanship.
Story
On a lake called Rock lake, I have taken the car to this area multiple times to enjoy the nearby beach area. I've also gone swimming and fishing in this area after using the vehicle. It's a nice car to take short distances and big enough to take a few passengers along, which has allowed for some positive experiences in living in a small town.
Pros
It has major style, and it can be souped up with customizations to look even better than it already does. I like the size of it and the fact that it's low to the ground, which means it takes off faster than a larger and heavier car. The gas mileage is respectable too. I like that the car is larger than it looks on the inside, by having a higher roof than some compact vehicles have. I'm able to easily fit people up to 6'2" in the car. It also has a smooth ride. The sunroof is unbeatable, and actually slides into place which seems safer than those that only move outward from the top of the v... (more)
Cons
Be prepared to make repairs on a regular basis with this car. Most of the repairs are Volkswagen-specific, and will require you to utilize a dealership mechanic, unless you know someone who can work on it for cheaper. I have easily put 4x the amount of the car's value into it since buying it 4 years ago. I would not call this vehicle reliable, and it can be dangerous to drive in poor driving conditions such as snow. It is not necessarily comfortable unless you are a smaller person. I am average sized and find this car to cramp a bit.

I bought my Beetle last year. It had a brand new water heater and the promise of a reliable car. It gets me to and from school, so it works. It has the coldest A/C and a nice radio. I love the drive and the power that tiny motor pushed out. It drives like a tank. I was involved in two hit and run accidents where my back bummer was hit at moderate speeds, and it took it like a champ. Drives like a breeze and doesn't have many issues for a 12-year-old car with 100K + miles.
Story
My car is prefect for those sunny days of driving. Nothing is better than windows down, moon roof open, and enjoying the fresh breeze coming into your car in the early spring. The A/C cooling down in like ten seconds also makes it the perfect Arizona driving car.
Pros
The style and frame work are amazing. This car is a downright tank when it comes to impacts.
Cons
With all things VW, getting it repaired mean throwing money for name brand parts. This means my back windshield was 10% of what I paid for the car. It has its problems, but they have been user-error issues.
