This car is a fantastic choice for someone looking to purchase their first car. I've been driving this car for more than 100,000 over five years and have had very few problems with the mechanics. For someone learning how to drive or new to driving, the steering and handling are very tight, making it easy to turn the car in a small radius or navigate into tight spaces. My Beetle has been very reliable; in five years I've replaced just the convertible top (which needs to be replaced in Florida about every four years due to the heat), the break booster, and a handful of window chains. Other than that, my beetle simply requires regular oil changes to run smoothly. I do wish the car had better fuel economy, but a tank can last me about a week driving all around the central Florida area for ... (more)
Story
My first trip out to the beach with my Beetle was the most memorable trip. The fact that there is very low wind noise when driving with the top down meant highway driving was totally okay! My friends and I piled into the car with our bathing suits and seatbelts on - but no sunscreen. After we arrived to the beach an hour later, we all realized we were so sunburnt from driving in the sun with n... (more)
Pros
Having a convertible top on a car that comfortably seats four is fantastic. I love the design of the car - very feminine and flirty. I enjoy having the ability to turn on a dime - very reactive steering and breaking. It almost feels like driving a go-kart, very responsive.
Cons
The automatic window mechanism (chain and motor) have the tendency to break from the track, and it isn't an issue you can fix without taking the car door apart - meaning the car had to go into the dealership every time this happened. Also, with a small car, you get a small trunk. I was able to fit two medium-sized suitcases comfortably, but had to put an additional two in the backseat, meaning no driving with the top down.

I honestly like the Volkswagen New Beetle. So far it has been a pretty decent car. It gets me from point A to point B. Like any car it has it's problems but I wouldn't consider it to be anything too major. I wouldn't completely be against purchasing another beetle. And I have recommended it to some people that have mentioned that they wanted to purchase one in the future. I just wish I had purchased it new instead of used.
Story
I wouldn't say that I've had many memorable experiences since I've had this car. Hopefully soon though.
Pros
I love that it is a small, compact car. And performance is also pretty great.
Cons
The cons are the fact that it is pretty expensive when it comes to fixing it.
