2003 Volkswagen New Beetle - Good value
My car was a good value when it was purchased, because it had leather, heated seats, it was quick, and was used but the body style had not been changed, so it was fairly cheap. It is a girly car and I was a teenage girl so at the time it was great, but as time has gone on I have come to dislike the pigeon hole it puts me in on the road. I do think that it helps detract attention from the police because it is so girl and non-threatening and attention grabbing, but it gathers other kinds of attention that I would prefer not to have. The backseat is very small and only has 2 seatbelts, so the car can only have 4 people. I liked that the backseats could fold down, revealing versatile space. There have been some mechanical issues that were very expensive to fix because it is not that kind o... (more)
Story
I had almost everything I needed for my college break stuffed into my car including a dog and a cat. There were a number of times that I had all sorts of things inside my car that normally I wouldn't think would fit.
Pros
The best part of this car was the model. It was a Turbo S version, so there were not that many made of it, and it is nicer and faster than most cars in its class. There is 2 tone leather, heated seats, a sunroof, and extra stylings inside that make it unique. The engine is a turbo and puts out some power when necessary. The trunk space is actually versatile because the seat can fold up, and there are even times when I slide up the front seat to gain additional room for larger items. I moved a lot of things back and forth from college to home on breaks and my car could hold quite a bit of t... (more)
Cons
There were many cons to my vehicle including performance issues, mechanical issues, and styling issues. For starters, there have been many mechanical issues that had recalls and many that didn't. A fuse box in my engine melted which was a frequent problem on forums and that caused me to break down in the middle of downtown Dallas at night. I have popped many tires which probably has to do with how low and bumpy my car is. My sunroof has electrical issues and opens and closes whenever it feels like it. The backseat only has 2 seatbelts and the headroom is very slanted and low, so over bumps... (more)
2003 Volkswagen New Beetle - Happy to have purchased a Beetle
When the new Volkswagen Beetle came out I had to have one. I owned the old Beetle and just knew that it was a great car. I especially like the form of the new Beetle. It is very stylish and the colors are great. And no, I did not get red with black dots - although I was thinking about it. The quality of the Volkswagen Beetle is exceptional. It is very well made and everything looks finished and polished. There are no flaws with the interior. The dashboard is designed very well and with lots of thought. The seats are very comfortable and easy to adjust. Even it is a rather smaller size car, there is plenty of room inside. The trunk is a little bit on the smaller size, but that is not a problem for me. All in all, I absolutely love this car and would buy another one. Especially because t... (more)
Story
One night I went to a restaurant at the beach and parked on the side of the parking lot. When we came out there were 10 beetles just like mine, but different colors, parked next to me. And one person put a sign up facing the parking lot, saying: "Tonight we have a bug invasion - maybe we should call the exterminator :)"
Pros
The seats are very comfortable.
Interior is very well made.
There is enough space inside to seat 4 people comfortable.
Fuel consumption is very good.
Driving is very quiet and smooth. There are no audible noises coming form the chassis or the motor that do not belong to the normal operation of the vehicle.
Cons
Trunk is a little bit on the small side.
