Passat S Sedan
The VW Passat is enjoyable to drive. Sometimes described as the "poor man's BMW", the Passat lives up to this description with tight handling and quick pickup. The Passat drives like a much more expensive vehicle, hugging the curves and responding quickly to the accelerator. It is a smooth drive. Be careful, this means it is easy to go faster than you might think you're going! Repairs for this car, however, tend to be expensive. That includes normal maintenance costs, like brakes and exhaust. The catalytic converter is especially expensive, over $1,000 with parts and labor. That's unfortunate since the car has a dual exhaust. The good news is that it doesn't need repair often. However, when routine maintenance is required, it tends to be pricey. It is worth seeking out a mechanic who is experienced with VWs. The options are quality, with good leather seats, a quality sound system and fun additions like a sun roof. Despite the powerful engine, the gas mileage is reasonable. Overall, the Passat offers a less expensive but quality option to enjoy that famous German engineering.

Volkswagen Passat - In it for the long haul
Volkswagen Passat is a standard sedan, with slight European styling. It has ample space to make it comfortable for long trips, but it is not a gas guzzler, so it is efficient around town. Volkswagen stands behind their product and offers a meaningful warranty - but I didn't have much cause to use it as the car performed well with very few issues other than standard maintenance. People are always surprised when I tell them the car is a 2009, because it looks great.
