I liked this car from the moment I saw it because it was good looking, and the engine has a lot of spunk to it. Before buying, my husband and I did extensive research about the vehicle. I was fascinated by how VW rolls the car in the paint and charged it with electricity, and that this was why they were able to give a longer warranty for the paint than most brands of cars. The craftsmanship of the car was good. It was built tough and durable, not cheap with a lot of plastic pieces like most cars we had owned previously. One example was a video of a man sitting on top of the open car door, and the VW Passat door hinges did not bend or sag like the Toyota Prius did. One of the big selling points for us was the fuel economy of 40 miles per gallon or more and that the car was supposed to b... (more)
Story
My husband often thinks he should have been a Nascar driver. So, we took our VW Passat Tdi to Colorado and drove up Pikes Peak. He decided he was going to drive aggressively up and down. He was racing a Porsche that was practicing for the road race that was going to take place the next week. Our car has hill hold on it, so the engine will slow you down without braking. So when you get half way... (more)
Pros
Fuel mileage and 800-mile range per tank of fuel as well as the durability of vehicle.
Cons
Maintenance cost were high. Vehicle polluted 40 times more than allowed by law. Diesel fuel is more expensive than regular gas.

One of the first things I noticed when I first test drove the car is how quiet, yet powerful, the engine is. I could listen to music on the freeway and not have to turn up the volume. In addition, the self-opening trunk is so helpful when you're shopping and have your hands full and can't open the trunk. One thing I do not like is the digital display of the mileage for a trip. It is hard to figure out. I do not know how to reset the mileage counter. Also, the brakes are just a little bit too sensitive or my taste. The remaining miles on a tank is also very inaccurate. It can jump down by 20 -30 miles in available gas when you maybe only drove 10. And it can also swing the other way, depending on if you're driving on the freeway or not.
Story
I was in two accidents with this car within a week. The first time, I was helping and elderly lady move. Specifically, moving her things into a trailer. After I had finished and returned to my car, I tried to open the door and was not able to open it a few inches. I shut the door and only then noticed that there was a huge in the door by the front part where it hinges. I think five days late... (more)
Pros
The gas mileage is pretty good. I get around 32 miles/gallon The inside is very roomy and comfortable. Middle section can be pulled down and reading lights are available in the back seat. Acceleration is great and the car drives very smoothly. Bluetooth capability
Cons
Digital dashboard set up hard to figure out. Brakes are too sensitive.
