2005 Audi S4 Owner Ratings & Reviews
Write a Review
2005 Audi S4 - Convenient and practical.
The S4 Avant's 4.2-liter V8 whines like a turbine. Blip the throttle and there's a hint of bass, but nothing to disturb the atmosphere of Zen-like calm. Lower the six-speed auto box' polished lever into Drive, gather up some revs, and it's clear that Ingolstadt's pocket-rocket is designed for double-duty. The shifts are silken; the slush box quickly and constantly seeks out the highest possible gear. The steering is lithium light. Your mother could drive this car without once sensing the animal lurking within.
Story
One time I had a girlfriend and took her drifting at Sacramento. Then I didn’t have a girlfriend anymore.
Pros
High performance. It has 340 HP 4.2L V8 engine coupled to it's all wheel drive system truly inspires confidence in any conditions, wet, dry, or even in the snow. The car also gets a lot of compliments from other drivers on the road, which is nice. I also appreciate all of the thoughtful features the car has, such as plenty of interior compartments, cruise control, trip computer, power sunshades and sunroof, and more.
Cons
The two most negative aspects of the 2005 Audi S4 are maintenance costs and fuel economy. It only gets around 17-18 MPG around town, and maybe 22-24 MPG on the highway, which isn't great. In addition, repair and maintenance costs for this vehicle tend to be astronomical. Any potential owners of used German sports cars need to be aware of this aspect of ownership before buying a car that isn't under some kind of warranty.
2005 Audi S4 - A safe, speedy joy
The 2005 Audi S4 is an affordable, luxury sports car. The naturally aspirated V8 is rare to find in any car and an absolute joy to drive. I drove a stick that was the smoothest manual transmission I have had the pleasure to drive. While some of the aluminum parts turned out to be a bit fragile, especially in the cold weather of winter, it was a strong, sturdy car under any circumstances. It has a sleek design that still catches eyes 13 years after manufacture.
Story
Making a 1.34 lap time at Garden of the Gods at three in the morning was an awesome time! And hitting 145 mph on HWY 24. The faster you go, the more the car settles down!
Pros
The all-wheel drive proved to be a dream in the snow, cornering even while accelerating. The eight-cylinder engine roars audibly and responsively. This car is quick, accelerating comparatively to modern vehicles with smaller engines. The Recaro seats cradle the driver while in operation and provide premium passenger comfort. Bose sound system is also a delight.
Cons
It had weak aluminum rims and suspension components. Fuel efficiency was non-existent, averaging 13 miles per gallon of premium gas. Because of the large, powerful engine, oil consumption was a problem, consuming about a quart for every 1,000 miles driven. Unfortunately, my engine died at 122,000 miles. So the engine life leaves a lot left to be desired, as it seemed to suddenly give out rather randomly while it still had plenty of life left.
