My husband and I bought a white 2004 Mazda MPV van in 2008 and paid cash. We bought this van for a family van as we had three sons at the time. They have since grown up and gone off to college and I am still driving this van. It runs pretty good with only the normal problems you would expect. We will be looking to replace this vehicle soon. There are no longer MPVs so we will be comparing all different types of vehicles. If there were MPVs, I would have to really like the new design again. Otherwise, I would like to change it up and maybe not even go in the van direction.
Story
We live in a beach community area and have sandy dirt roads we drive down to reach lake Michigan accesses. The MPV has made it through a lot of questionable sand hopping we did to get a great parking spot. Only had to get pushed out a few times. Perfect size for kayaks and huge dogs.
Pros
The van has adjustable middle seats that can be bucket seats or a double bench seat and can be removable. The back seat holds three people and folds down into the floor nicely. My favorite thing is that the sliding doors have power windows. I have safely transported three sons and a Saint Bernard and Lab in this van for years. I love the camel interior color and the white exterior.
Cons
Rust. We had rust really start to present itself noticeably about 4 years ago. I have done a lot of small cover up work with matching automotive spray paint from AutoZone for the last few summers. That is becoming silly now and I am getting ready to let it go soon anyway. I would actually keep this van longer if it weren't so embarrassingly rusted.

My Mazda MPV is a decent used vehicle. We needed a minivan for our growing family. The bench seat in the middle can actually come apart and turn into two captain-style chairs. This is a plus in case I need to separate squabbling siblings. Unfortunately, the minivan is just the tiniest bit too short -- as if the manufacturer reaaaaally wanted to save just those extra 6" of space and managed to do so as inconveniently as possible. The driver and passenger seats, for example, can't go back far enough for an average-sized adult to have any leg room/driving room IF there is an infant car seat in the middle seat! Mazda also compressed the inner mechanical workings, costing us big bucks in labor if we ever need any work done. However, it is quite a reliable car. We bought it from my parents w... (more)
Story
We live in a very hot climate (Phoenix), which is murder on batteries. One day my 3-year-old daughter messed around with the lights in the back without me realizing it. One teeny tiny little light left on for a few hours drained the battery to such a degree that AAA had to come give me a jump. Ha. Ha. Ha. Ha.
Pros
It is extremely reliable and gets good gas mileage.
Cons
It is just a little bit too short. Either the person sitting in the middle or the front passenger is uncomfortable.
