I think this is a quality vehicle. I bought it because my previous car was also a Protege and 2003 was the last year they were making them in that style. I feel that it performs well and handles well. I have less than $50,000 miles on it and I have had it for 10 years. I have only had minor problems with it.
Story
Not really - I don't usually drive long distances with it as I don't like to drive long distances at all so it's for to and from work and errands
Pros
I like the appearance of the car I like the visibility through the windows and the lack of blind spots and the way I can see around the headrest I like the color of the car I like the way the car drives and handles corners and the turning radius It is a comfortable car It is a roomy car, front and back seat and trunk It is not a noisy car It has enough power for me I feel safe driving it and I haven't been injured when I have been involved in the accidents I have had (mostly not my fault)
Cons
I need to use a back rest as there isn't enough back support The passenger door lock failed a few years ago The CD player stopped working a few months ago and all my cd's are stuck in it. It has a lot of dings on the passenger side - so I assume that the body is not as durable as it could be. I have not had these things fixed as they are not that important to my ability to drive the car.

This car has performed reliably for over a decade for me. I bought it used, and it looks like the previous owner may have had an accident with it. I've been maintaining the car well, making sure the fluids are regularly checked and at their proper levels. The Protege has been through some rough winters and brutal desert summers. The gas mileage for the Protege isn't the best, but considering it's a model that's almost 15 years old, it's still better than all the SUVs you see around. The sound system it came with wasn't amazing, but it was easy to have modified to what I like. It's a great car for just getting you from point A to point B. If you're not really into cars and just want something to commute in, the Protege is a great car. I've found that there's enough space in the trunk fo... (more)
Story
I was driving down my snow-covered street. When I turned at the corner, the tires lost their grip, and the car was spinning (I wasn't going very fast, so it was slow). By some miracle, I missed all the other cars on the street.
Pros
Reliable when maintained properly. Comfortable for a tall driver. Sunroof is nice on cooler days.
Cons
Sound system isn't amazing. Display on radio doesn't work anymore.
