2006 Mazda Tribute - Dependable and fun vehicle to own
The Mazda Tribute was a wonderful vehicle to own. As a woman, I appreciate the reliability and cost effectiveness of Mazda products. They include more options for the money than other comparable vehicle companies. The interior and exterior are of quality materials and the Mazda service is unsurpassed. This vehicle was low maintenance. The storage compartment allowed me to haul just about anything I wanted and the cargo rails on the top allowed for items to fixed to it safely. Although I bought the base model, it had all of the options I wanted, including electric windows and seats, CD player and radio and customized heating/cooling for both passenger and driver.

I have a habit of rescuing dogs, so I carry a leash and treats with me at all times. Because of the large cargo space, there were many times, I stopped to pick up stray dogs and put them in the back to take home. My friends always joked that they never knew what I would show up with in the back of the vehicle when they saw me.

The top positive things about this vehicle were the roominess of the cargo space and the passenger compartments. The fold down back seats increased the cargo space significantly, and I never had a problem hauling anything I needed to haul. The vehicle is tall so I sat up high, which gave me a feeling of security and safety when driving. The ride was smooth, and the interior significantly reduced road noise. The wheels were nice, and I loved the color. It was a pretty maroon with black trim. It is a rugged looking truck yet didn't feel utilitarian to drive. The Mazda service was very... (more)

I trusted them, and I never had much a problem with the car other than replacing the tires. I changed the oil every 7,000 to 10,000 miles, and there were never any other problems found during the oil changes. I could carry my dogs in it, and the color of the interior was easy to clean. I purchased all weather mats as well as a cargo mat that made it an even more functional vehicle.
The most negative thing about this vehicle is that it didn't hold its value. The trade-in value was very low, which was a disappointment. There was some road noise when going over 60 miles per hour, and I never determined if that was due to the tires or the chassis. The paint easily scratched and was not of the quality I had hoped. The base model didn't have a multi-disc CD player, which I would have liked, and the speakers weren't very good quality. I never got the gas mileage they claimed the vehicle would get in either the city or on the highway. The cargo compartment could have b... (more)

The cargo compartment could have been a bit wider by not having the wheel wells take up so much space. The headrests in the back had to be taken out because they blocked my view. The side mirrors needed to be a bit larger for the size of the vehicle in order to avoid blind spots.
2006 Mazda Tribute - Functional, but that's it
To start, the car has broken down several times for an issue so trivial that it is solved by literally hitting the starter with a wrench a few times. It eats oil up like crazy, and it's not because there's a leak; I've had it checked out several times. It is the loudest car I have ever owned, and I've owned a 1997 Ford Explorer when it was nearly 20 years old. The A/C broke, the CD player broke, and the heater broke with average usage. I cannot stress enough how ridiculously loud it is. It does not accelerate well at all. I have to step on the pedal nearly to the ground to get up to 60. Maneuvering is decent, I don't think I've had any problems in that regard. All I can say is my 1997 Explorer with >250K miles runs much better than this car, which has about 170K miles. The appearance is ok, it just looks like a normal SUV. Gas mileage seems to be decent enough. Windshield wiper randomly snapped off one day, which has never happened to me before. It's comfortable enough; the interior headlining and seat cushions haven't held up particularly well over time. Trunk space is decent. I will say that its relatively compact size is pretty convenient for an SUV. And I like their color options better than most other vehicle lines.

We drove around to Gatlinburg too, and around all of Sevier County and the Smokey Mountains with my boyfriend at the time. We stopped along the road to a lot of tourist-y attractions like a titanic museum, alpine coasters, and gem mining places. We later made our way down to Nashville for a short day trip. It was kind of hard to get around town there because it was the day of the Solar Eclipse and apparently Nashville was a really good location to see it from. We also went to Charleston in West Virginia to go to the Hollywood Casino for a Dwight Yokam concert and to play the slots with my dad and one of my uncles. I remember listening to George Jones on the way down and introducing my boyfriend at the time to old country music. When we got there we couldn't figure out where to park and ended up driving all the way down to where they host the horse races that you bet on. We talked to a parking attendant and he showed us where to go. My dad made fun of us for not being able to find the right place to park.
Nice size for an SUV, maneuvers well, gas mileage, no brake problems.

Mechanically it is very unreliable. It does not age well.
