This car is very comfortable, has a very solid, smooth ride and can haul a big load. I have put almost 200,000 miles on it and moved 2 kids in and out of college for many years. The back seats go down so you can even haul furniture. I t has been a reliable car for many years, gas mileage has been pretty good (about 22 mpg non highway driving). There has been few repairs, mostly maintenance, tires, brakes etc. It is 11 years old, no rust yet. It has great pick up, is very powerful. Because it is a large car, it feel safe to drive on big highways. I would recommend this car. The dealership is good for maintenance, but stay away for anything else. Fortunately there have few issues. I am plan of keeping this car till it dies!
Story
We have two of these cars (one 2001 and one 2004). We hauled a big piece of bedroom furniture in each car (back seat down) and drove 250 miles on the turnpike. My kid didn't believe we could do it. She was shocked when she saw how big (and nice) those pieces were (big dresser and a vanity, waterfall type). We also hauled an Ikea couch later.
Pros
This car has been reliable, a very comfortable, big ride and good on gas mileage. Reliability is a big thing. People needed to get to work, drive hundreds of miles to meetings, get kids to school on time and make vet and doctors appointments. The ride is comfortable not only for the driver, but everyone in the car. Back seats were very roomy. Because the car is big and moves quick, I feel confident on the turnpike passing trucks and other large vehicles. The gas mileage has been great and it has never failed us. Yes, this has been a great car!
Cons
The most negative thing has been the catalytic converters. I have had two replaced. One fell apart and pieces got caught in the exhaust system, the car almost didn't make it home. My NON-DEALERSHIP mechanic did a fix for about $200, then replaced the catalytic converter with a NON FORD part. Everything else in the car worked great.

I have been driving this car for 4 years now. I am in college two hours from home, and this car has brought me back and forth between school and home for the three years that I have been in college thus far. The car gets decent gas mileage at about 25 miles per gallon. The car is slightly bigger than other compact cars and is metal, not plastic. I feel safe and secure in this car. The bottom frame of the car has rusted some, as is common with Mercury sables. The car has great air conditioning and heating systems. Unfortunately, since the car is a 2004 model, there are few perks. The car lacks luxuries like a back-up camera and built-in navigation. The car has a CD Player as well as a cassette tape player, which is rare to find in cars, these days. The car seats 5 people comfortably, wi... (more)
Story
I packed my car full of the entire contents of my dorm room and drove home from school for the summer. There was not an inch of empty space in my car.
Pros
This car has many positive aspects to it. I enjoy the large amount of space, as well as the sturdy feeling of the car. I like that it gets fairly good gas mileage, as it is not electric or hybrid.
Cons
Cons about this vehicle include its proneness to rusting and its lack of technological advancements, like built-in navigation. The car also lacks a remote starter.
